The Royal Marsden Hospital is one of Europe’s largest Oncology centres and was the world’s first hospital dedicated to cancer research, diagnosis, treatment and education with sites in Chelsea, Cavendish Square and Sutton. This post is based at our Chelsea site.
We are currently inviting applications from enthusiastic radiographers for a band 6 radiographer to rotate in CT and MRI.
Participation in the residential on call service is not expected.
The successful candidate should be an innovative, highly motivated radiographer with good communication skills, who is keen to contribute positively to the expanding CT and MRI service. The ideal candidate must demonstrate a commitment to professional development and show a keen interest in the future of their profession and the diagnostic imaging services. In return the successful applicant will be offered a high standard of support towards their career pathway.

The post holder will be expected to be flexible in their approach as the department will operate between 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday and Saturday 8am -5pm.

The post holder will work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team in the provision of an efficient and effective diagnostic imaging service. The post holder will liaise with the clinicians caring for a patient, other departments and other departmental staff within the multi-disciplinary team. The post holder will be required to rotate between CT and MRI.

While working within an oncological environment the post holder will be required to interact directly with terminally ill patients as well as being exposed at times to distressing and emotional situations. Patient presentation will include the unconscious, uncooperative, incapacitated, incompetent, distressed, disorientated, and those with physical and mental disabilities. The post holder will have responsibility for the timely, efficient and courteous provision of imaging services within the available resources.

The post holder will be expected to be flexible in their approach to the department and service and will be required to be flexible and work at our other locations as and when required; including but not limited to Chelsea, and our Sutton and Cavendish Square sites. Participation in the on-call provision is not expected.

• To perform clinical MRI scans to produce diagnostic information appropriately as required by current protocols.
• To be aware of COSHH and Health and Safety at Work Act and ensure their guidelines are followed. To be fully aware of the potential hazards of working in an area of strong magnetic field and to be familiar with the safety guidelines issued by the MHRA.
• To be fully aware of the potential bio-effects of MRI and to ensure that the scanner is operated within safe limits at all times. To act at all times with consideration for the safety and welfare of patients.
• To ensure that adequate protection is given to self, patients and other staff as laid out in the Local Rules for protection of persons in MRI.
• To be familiar with and implement safety procedures (quench, fire, cardiac arrest) which are specific to the MRI environment.
• To ensure that all persons entering the scanner examination room have completed an MRI safety checklist and have removed all personal belongings, which might either be hazardous in the area of strong magnetic field or might be damaged by it.
• To ensure that, once removed, patients’ valuables are safely locked away.
• To be physically able to move moderately heavy items of equipment (e.g. surface coils) throughout the working day.
