Summary
The Ministry of Defence employs over 50,000 Civil Servants. Within that, with responsibility for an annual budget of over £10bn, the Army is a major part of the Ministry of Defence and one of its largest operating centres who employ around 12,000 Civil Servants located at over 300 locations supporting the 110K regular and reserve soldiers across the Army. This Civil Service workforce is diverse, with many different functions and professions ranging from police officers, security guards, trainers, human resources, teachers, and psychologists to storekeepers, financiers, project and programme managers, and policy secretariat staff.
Headquarters South-West (HQSW) formed as a stand-alone Joint Military Command (JMC) and comprises of a fully integrated staff including regular army, civil service, Full Time Reservists (FTRS) and part time Reservists. Together we look after the Army’s interests in the seven counties of the south-west including the Isles of Scilly and Channel Islands. Centred around the Four Pillars of ‘UK (United Kingdom) Operations’ ‘The Firm Base’ ‘Engagement’ and ‘Cadets,’ the breadth of our responsibilities is wide and varied, from assurance of the Field Army to response and command of UK Resilience Operations, all tasks that underpin the success of our Army on operations. Finally, our largest annual output is the delivery of the largest outdoor youth activity in the UK, Ten Tors.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
You will be part of a fast paced team looking after the Information Technology requirements of Service personnel in the South West. This includes the issue and support of equipment such as Laptops, Phones, standalone equipment for example. Within the team you will be the Lead Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Standalone equipment requests and support.
Main responsibilities include:
SME and Point of Contact (PoC) for all Standalone matters within your Area of Responsibility (AoR), providing Direction and Guidance when required
Liaise with MOD customers to ensure that telecoms requests are justified and accompanied by a One Page Business Case for changes to current infrastructure and IT requests in accordance with Army Command Standing Orders
Advise and support the Higher Executive Officer (HEO) Information & Communication Systems (ICS) with Standalone IT matters
Complete site surveys as directed by HEO ICS to assess means of providing for Unit requirements regarding efficiency, value for money and legal or contractual obligations
Management of the HQs IS Loan Pool
Configuration and asset management of standalone fleet of desktop, laptop, and printer assets
Procurement of standalone IT and AV peripherals and equipment while ensuring that the correct financial governance and compliance is adhered to
