At Pobl Group, this role is best known as Scheme Support Officer. George Street, Newport are looking for a motivated and positive Scheme Support Officer to join their team. In making a difference to the care leavers accessing the service. This is opportunity to build on existing experience, skills and knowledge to help young people gain independence. It’s a unique and exciting project where you will be a part of something special.

Part Time – 36 hours
Permanent Contract
Salary for this role is £24,531.00 FTE + £51.11 sleep-in allowance
Work Pattern: days, waking nights & Sleep-ins
What is special about this opportunity?
George Street supports young people, predominantly between the ages of 16-18, who have typically led very difficult lives. Often, they’ve spent their childhood and adolescence in Local Authority care, experiencing many changes of home environment including different residential and foster homes.
The people we support are all Care Leavers who have involvement with Social Services. Many have experienced significant trauma brought on by abuse and neglect in early years. As a result, we work with young people who display a range of complex behaviours including attachment disorders, personality disorders, self-harm and parasuicide, risk taking behaviour, alcohol and substance misuse and offending behaviour.
How can I make a difference?
This opportunity can be a stepping stone to a rewarding career in support. You will act as a first point of contact and a role model for the young people we support. You will build positive relationships by helping them make a transition into independent living and advise on move on options. You will provide advice with budgeting and money management, including welfare benefits, as well as support them in a practical way, with regards to day to day living skills.
Day to day duties include:
Assist the Project Worker in the day to day running of the service, in the absence of the manager.
Be the first point of contact for all telephone calls and visitors to the service and to deal effectively with queries.
Deal with emergencies appropriately and complete all necessary paperwork
Develop your networking skills by working in partnership with external agencies
Clients are challenging
General housekeep of the scheme – turning rooms around, painting
Who are we looking for?
This role requires flexibility along with enthusiasm, motivation and creativity. You need the ability to work on your own initiative in a busy and dynamic role as well as being a positive team player. This role is for a passionate individual who believes they can make a difference to our service users. You will have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
