Not just any ‘exciting job opportunity!’ We are thrilled to be able to offer this sought after training position to work in the specialised field of Clinical Neurophysiology.

Are you an excellent communicator, with a caring nature? Do you have a keen interest in science, particularly neurophysiology and would you love to become proficient in using clinical diagnostic equipment whilst working directly with patients? If you can answer yes to the above and you hold a Science degree or equivalent, then this is the position for you!

Our department performs investigative testing on the brain, nerves and muscles to help diagnose a range of conditions from Epilepsy to MND. We work directly with patients in our department, on wards and in ICU, neonatal unit and theatre.

If you fit the criteria you will be expected to attend and open afternoon arranged to provide more information about this post. This will be held on 22/09/2025. Following the open afternoon, you can withdraw.

Overa jam-packedtwo yearperiod you will complete an‘Individual Record of Clinical Practice’ portfolio,as well as obtaining a Postgraduate Certificate in Neurophysiology from Aston University.


Initially, you will gain hands-on experiencein performing routine, sleep and portable EEGs as well asassistingin nerve conduction and EMG clinics.You will be working directly with patients so will need to be friendlyand adaptable.You willbe requiredto multitask, making the patient feel comfortable and relaxed as well asusing diagnostic equipment to obtainhigh quality data.

The departmentprovidescomprehensive range of neurophysiological procedures including routine, sleep, ambulatory andportable EEGs recording for both adults and paediatricsin ICU and neonatal. Clinical physiologists are also involved in performing MSLTs, evoked potentials, nerve conduction studies and intra-operative monitoring in theatres.


We are dedicated to the education of students and trainees and have robust training programs in place.There is no doubt that you will be supported in all aspects of your role andfutureopportunitiesforgrowth and development.


The Neurosciences Centrecomprisesboth Neurosurgery and Medical Neurosciences (Neurology, Neurophysiology, neuroradiology, including interventional neuroradiology,neuropathologyand Neurorehabilitation). The population served by the Neurosciences Centre is approximately 1.6 million from the catchment area of Lancashire and South Cumbria.


Role Summary

To train to provide a clinical neurophysiology service to patients from a range of specialities suffering from a wide variety of medical disorders as detailed below and to perform these under supervision.

To perform the investigations specified in line with department procedures to the expected
department standards.

Train to undertake interpretation of results and provide factual reports and perform these under
supervision.

Participate in CPD, audit and research.

Work collaboratively with other staff on a daily basis to ensure the service needs are met.

Successfully complete any academic training modules deemed necessary by the educational supervisor
