About the Role

We are seeking a confident and professional individual to join HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) at Westminster Magistrates' Court.

This role is ideal for someone with strong customer service experience who is also comfortable with public speaking in a formal environment. As part of the Customer Service team, you will assist members of the public and court users with enquiries, while as a List Caller, you will prepare and announce cases in the courtroom.

If you are organised, people-focused, and thrive in busy, front-facing roles, this is a unique opportunity to contribute to the smooth running of the justice system.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service duties include:

  • Assisting members of the public at the public counter and by telephone

  • Providing clear and professional guidance to court users

  • Booking interpreters and processing interpreter timesheets

  • Collating and entering trial data into court databases

  • Carrying out general administrative support

List Caller duties include:

  • Preparing courtrooms and daily court lists

  • Announcing and calling cases in the courtroom (public speaking required)

  • Checking in defendants, solicitors, witnesses, and interpreters

  • Escorting and swearing in witnesses, interpreters, and police officers

  • Working closely with clerks, probation officers, and police liaison staff

Skills & Requirements
  • Proven customer service skills and experience handling enquiries

  • Confidence in public speaking within a formal setting

  • Excellent communication skills (face-to-face, telephone, and email)

  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Excel

  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • A professional attitude with the ability to remain calm under pressure

Important Information:

  • This role is office-based only (no remote working)

  • Training will be provided

  • You must be eligible for CTC (Counter Terrorist Check) clearance, which requires 3 years of UK residency

  • A DBS check/references is also required (we will arrange both checks for you). Security vetting typically takes 2-3 weeks
