About us
The City Surveyor’s Department is responsible for the management of the City of London Corporation’s property investment portfolio, corporate real estate, property/construction projects
- and the operational management and day-to-day outsourced facilities management services
- of both portfolios. The City Surveyor is the organisations’ Head of Profession for Estates and Facilities Management.
Importantly, the City Corporation has a vast array of Statutory Protected assets, within the Square Mile and across Greater London in open spaces like Epping Forest, West Ham Park, Hampstead Park, and Ashtead Park. The City Surveyor’s Regeneration & Development Group is responsible for the conservation care across a heritage portfolio of over 800 assets.
A Historic Heritage Estate
The City of London Corporation is seeking to appoint an adept, proactive Head of Estates responsible for leading the repairs and maintenance programme for a Heritage Estate containing an extensive portfolio of assets including high reputational risk projects such as the Lord Mayor’s State Coach and the maintenance of Scheduled Ancient Monuments.
This includes all aspects of historic asset management including undertaking site inspections, preparation of technical reports on the heritage assets state and condition, together with commentary on their social and historic values; and all aspects of the management of projects assigned to the post for works of repair and maintenance to historic assets.
This is an essential position within the Corporation, a will serve to evolve the Heritage Estates programme into a forward-thinking, proactive programme of works, whilst developing the talent a capability within the existing team.
What You'll Do
- Lead and develop the Heritage Estate team in the management and upkeep of the City Corporation’s Heritage assets advising on the heritage elements of all Major Projects.
- Setting and enforcing the Heritage Estate Team’s strategies, policies and repair and maintenance protocols to ensure that the estate is maintained to relevant standards.
- Responsible for the regular programme of inspections, surveys, and maintenance and repairs across the Heritage Estate.
- Collaborating to secure funding to undertake the programme and prioritising in the event of funding gaps in a 3-year cycle.
- Procurement and management of external expert consultants in the delivery of heritage assets in the Heritage Estate portfolio.
- Champion for the Heritage Estate Team and their work, as well as providing strategic advice and analysis to internal and external stakeholder groups.
- Ensuring the preparation, review and implementation of 20-year plans for the Heritage Estate assets.
What We're Looking For
- Chartered Professional status RICS or other, or conservation accreditation from a recognised body. Desirably, degree educated in a relevant heritage sector.
- Significant, demonstrable, experience of leading and managing a multi-disciplinary team, preferably in a corporate-related environment with a heritage focus.
- Experience leading strategic asset management, providing advice, and guidance, and developing and maintaining forward maintenance plans.
- Conservation of a broad range of heritage asset types, e.g. buildings, statues, monuments, artworks.
