Energy Assessor (SOC 3541) – Job Description
Job title: Energy Assessor (Domestic)
SOC code: 3541 – Estimators, valuers & assessors (Energy advisers and assessors)
Reports to: Retrofit Coordinator / Quality Lead
Base: Field with hybrid reporting
Contracted hours: 37.5 h/week (or pro-rated)
Salary: At or above the current TSL standard rate for SOC 3541 (pro-rated) + mileage/expenses
Role purpose
Undertake domestic energy assessments (EPC/RdSAP and occupancy/usage questionnaires) and produce accurate, compliant reports that inform fabric-first upgrades and customer advice.
Key responsibilities
Conduct RdSAP property inspections (dimensions, construction, glazing, insulation presence, heating/hot-water controls).
Collect photographic and documentary evidence to scheme standards; upload to QA systems.
Complete ventilation and moisture-risk observations at a level suitable for energy advice and signposting (not design).
Generate EPCs and clear recommendation reports with estimated savings and CO₂ impact.
Provide basic advice at point of survey (controls use, thermostat settings, draught-proofing, simple behavioural changes).
Liaise with Retrofit Coordinators/Case Workers to ensure data quality and eligibility evidence.
Maintain safeguarding, lone-working, and data-protection protocols.
Essential criteria
DEA accreditation (Elmhurst/ECMK/Stroma or equivalent) or ability to gain accreditation rapidly.
Proven accuracy in RdSAP inputs and evidence collection; familiarity with scheme audits.
Excellent written records and customer communication.
Desirable
PAS 2035 awareness; prior work with ECO/GBIS or local-authority schemes.
Understanding of ToU tariffs and PV/battery self-consumption for advice purposes.
KPIs
Right-first-time EPCs (%), audit pass rate, report turnaround, customer satisfaction.
Compliance note for CoS: Role centres on energy assessment and advice, aligning to SOC 3541; salary meets/exceeds the current TSL standard rate.
