The Greensand Trust
6 Month Fixed Term Contract (Potential for Permanent)
Location: Rushmere Country Park, Bedfordshire
Salary: £12.21 per hour
Hours: 5 days per week, Thursday–Monday (summer: 11:30–8pm / winter: 9am–5:30pm)
The Greensand Trust is looking for a motivated and practical Park Warden to join our Ranger and Visitor Services team, helping us care for some of Bedfordshire’s most popular countryside sites.
As a Park Warden, you’ll play a vital role in keeping our parks safe, welcoming, and well-managed. From maintaining paths, car parks, play areas and woodlands, to supporting visitors, volunteers and community groups, this is a varied and rewarding role for someone who enjoys working outdoors and engaging with people.
What you’ll be doing:
• Carrying out general site maintenance, grounds work, and safety checks.
• Using tools and machinery (mowers, strimmers, tractors, etc.) to keep sites safe and presentable.
• Engaging with visitors, providing information and support, and helping manage car parks and permit schemes.
• Supporting volunteers and working alongside community groups.
• Enforcing byelaws and assisting with visitor safety, including first aid cover.
• Ensuring sites are welcoming, clean, and accessible.
What we’re looking for:
• At least one year’s paid or voluntary experience in countryside, land or conservation work.
• Practical skills in site maintenance, machinery use, and tool handling.
• Good communication skills and confidence engaging with visitors.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Flexibility to work weekends, evenings, and across multiple sites.
• A full clean UK driving licence.
Desirable extras include countryside qualifications (chainsaw, strimming, pesticides), first aid, and experience of leading volunteers or handling wildlife, but training may be provided for the right candidate.
What we offer:
• A 6-month fixed term contract with the potential to become permanent.
• 20 days holiday plus bank holidays (increasing with length of service).
• Statutory pension scheme.
• Uniform and shared work vehicle provided.
• The chance to make a real difference in caring for valued local countryside sites.
If you’re passionate about the outdoors, enjoy practical work, and want to play a key role in managing and protecting our local countryside, we’d love to hear from you.
