The job holder will be working towards being a state registered Radiographer with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and work as an autonomous Radiographer Practitioner undertaking a wide range of general radiographic examinations and fluoroscopy procedures. The job holder will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team providing a high quality radiology service for patients, adhering to policies and procedures as specified by the Trust and Radiology Management Team. The job holder is responsible for performing with the highest standard of patient care and technical practice in their clinical area whilst imaging patients and will adhere to the codes of conduct of behaviours of the professional body, The College of Radiographers and the HCPC. They will ensure the interests of the patient are maintained at all times, including acting as a patients advocate as necessary. Training & Education University Provider: Sheffield Hallam University Start Date: March 2026 (Trust employment begins February 2026) Duration: 3 year course Course Fees: Fully funded by the Trust Annex 30 Apprenticeship Pay Progression This apprenticeship is offered under Annex 30 of the NHS Terms and Conditions of Service. You will be appointed at Band 5, with pay progression linked to your development and competence throughout the apprenticeship. Person specification Essential Criteria Qualifications and Experience Minimum age: 18 years Right to abode in the UK The post is subject to Enhanced DBS and Occupational Health clearance Experience of working in Health and Social care GCSE Maths and English at Level 2 or above (Grade 4 or previously Grade C) IELTS score of 6.5 overall, with no component below 5.5 (or equivalent) if English is not your first language If you have over 6 months experience of working in health or social care, you must hold: Evidence of successful formal study at Level 3 OR If you have less than six months of experience in health or social care, you must hold one of the following: 96 UCAS points from three A-levels or equivalent qualifications (e.g. BTEC Nationals, Cambridge Technicals, OCR Nationals, T Levels) Access to HE Diploma from a QAA-recognised course Level 3 Apprenticeship Higher Technical Qualifications (HTQs) Level 4 or 5 qualifications (e.g., HNDs, Foundation Degrees, Certificate or Diploma of Higher Education) Previous degree Desirable Work experience in a Radiology Department Essential criteria Skills and Behaviours Genuine interest and passion for Radiography Effective interpersonal and communication skills Professional in attitude and appearance IT skills Essential Criteria Additional Requirements Working unsocial hours (evenings, nights, weekends, bank holidays including Christmas) Working across various Radiology modalities across our multiple hospital sites including Leeds General Infirmary and St Jamess University Hospital, as well as Chapel Allerton, Seacroft, and Wharfedale Hospitals. Wearing heavy lead protective equipment Manoeuvring imaging equipment across hospital sites Contact with infected materials, body fluids, blood, and foul linen Working in emotionally distressing situations (e.g. oncology, including paediatric oncology, resus and ICU patients) with a frequent high level of concentration required. The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is also home to the regions Major Trauma Centre as well as The St Jamess Institute of Oncology housed in the state-of-the-art Bexley Wing. Seacroft Hospital has recently been developed into a new Community Diagnostic Centre with a 7-day week Radiology Service. In addition to the above, following successful completion of the apprenticeship degree and interview, a qualified Band 5 Radiographer will be expected to work autonomously to: Undertake general radiographic and fluoroscopic examinations in emergency, outpatient, and inpatient settings. Perform portable imaging in resuscitation areas, wards, HDU, and ICU. Provide intraoperative imaging in theatres for Urology, Trauma, Paediatrics, Orthopaedics, and Neurosurgery. Use a variety of radiographic equipment to produce high-quality diagnostic images and understand the parameters of the equipment and how it works. Work as part of a multidisciplinary team and participate in 24/7 shift patterns. Adhere to the codes of conduct of behaviours of the professional body, The College of Radiographers and the HCPC.
