About us
Citizens Advice Cardiff & Vale is an independent charity and member of the Local Citizens Advice network. We help people resolve their legal, money and other problems by providing free, independent, impartial and confidential advice on a range of issues. We are funded to provide services to people in the local area as well as across England and Wales.
Role overview
You will be part of one of our three Consumer Adviser teams. Our teams are diverse, with a range of experiences, and work together in our Barry office, delivering advice via telephone, email and webchat. You will be providing clients with practical, impartial advice and information on their consumer rights and responsibilities, often related to faulty goods, services, or energy issues, using the organisation's resources and expertise. You will help resolve consumer problems by explaining the law, negotiating with suppliers, and escalating complaints to Trading Standards. A key part of the role is to contribute to the organisation's data gathering for wider campaigning and policy work.

Important information
Consumer advisers are required to complete classroom-based training during the first four weeks of their employment. This training includes end-of-unit assessments followed by final written and telephone-based assessments. Employment is conditional upon passing all assessments.
We welcome applications in the Welsh language.

We also deliver the Welsh language Consumer Service Helpline. Therefore, we are actively recruiting Welsh speaking advisers. Fluent Welsh speakers will receive an additional £2,000 per annum following an assessment of their abilities and commencement of delivery of services in Welsh.

Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI)
Our ambition is to work together to promote a more inclusive environment that attracts everybody with the right skills and experience and signals our commitment to celebrating and promoting diversity.
We are committed to the equal treatment of all current and prospective employees and do not condone discrimination on the basis of age, disability, sex, sexual orientation, pregnancy and maternity, race or ethnicity, religion or belief, gender identity, or marriage and civil partnership. We want people to bring their unique blend of experiences, backgrounds, perspectives and knowledge as we recognise that diversity makes us stronger.
Please note that we are unable to provide sponsorship under the UK points-based immigration system, as we do not hold a sponsorship licence.

Disability Confident
We are Disability Confident employer. Disability Confident is a government initiative to encourage employers to recruit and retain disabled people and those with health conditions. It is voluntary and has been developed by employers and disabled people’s representatives. Being a Disability Confident employer means that we commit to:

 All of the actions to be Disability Confident employer
 Offering at least one activity to get the right people for our organisation
 At least one activity to keep and develop our people
 Successfully completing the Disability Confident self-assessment
