Summary
Job Title: Pre-School Deputy and Safeguard Lead
Reports to: Pre-School Leader/Manager
Responsible for: Safeguarding, Leading the room, Planning, supporting staff.
Purpose of the job: To work as a Deputy and Key Person, as part of the Pre-School team under the direction of the Pre-School Manager to provide safe, high-quality education and care for Pre-School children.
Job Type: This will be a Part-time role (no more than 32 hours, no less than 20 hrs) Term time Setting.
Hours will be between 8am - 3.45 - You must be able to work these hours 3 days a week.
With the nature of our preschool, we will be able to offer some flexibility for the right candidate.
We are a fun, pack away setting in the village of Castor, Peterborough. We have run for over twenty years and are passionate about empowering children to reach their full potential as well as offering support and community for their families.
We have strong links to our community and are voluntarily managed by an elected committee, and it is run under the guidelines of a constitution. We are a non-profit making Pre-School holding charitable status and are approved by OFSTED (Office for Standards in Education).
Main Duties
1. To assist with the planning.
2. To help set up the play areas, both inside and outside, for the daily session and to help tidy away at the end. We are a pack away setting so some lifting and fitness involved.
3. To act as a keyperson to a group of children, working closely with parents/carers/other professionals and ensuring each child’s needs are recognised and met.
4. To advise the Pre-School Manager of any concerns e.g. over children, parents or the safety of equipment, ensuring confidentiality as necessary.
5. To teach children offering an appropriate level of support and stimulation.
6. To attend staff meetings and any other meetings as required.
7. To attend training as appropriate.
8. To keep confidential any information regarding the children, their families or other staff which is learned as part of the job.
9. To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by the Pre-School Manager, in accordance with the Pre-School’s objectives.
10. To Lead Safeguarding (with the manager) completing regular courses to stay updated on new legislation and trends. To monitor staff and their training.
PERSONNEL SPECIFICATION
Essential criteria
• Level 3 or above Early Years qualification or equivalent.
• Willingness to learn and develop practice
• Commitment to young children and families.
• Ability to work within a team.
• Ability to work with parents and to encourage their involvement.
• Good knowledge and experience with IT
• Friendly, flexible approach.
• Safeguarding experience or the willingness to learn quickly.
• Organised with the ability to set and complete targets for children and the setting
• Fun and passionate about working with young children and their families.
• Have sound knowledge of the EYFS and Safeguarding (although up to date training will be available)
• This role will require an enhanced DBS check
