We are recruiting a LGV Driver C+E (Low Loader)to join our friendly Tarmac Pave team based in Tarmac Agecroft, Salford, near Manchester operating a variety of company vehicles including low loaders, fuel bowsers, stores delivery vehicles, and bitumen spray tankers. This role is easily accessible from Bolton, Oldham, Rochdale, Stockport, Ashton-under-Lyne, Warrington, Wigan, St Helens, Chorley and the surrounding areas.

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Regional Plant & Transport Manager the role of LGV Driver C+E (Low Loader)will be responsible for safely and efficiently operating a variety of company vehicles including low loaders, fuel bowsers, stores delivery vehicles, and bitumen spray tankers. This role supports Tarmac’s operational delivery across the region, ensuring the timely transportation of plant, materials, fuel, and the application of bitumen on freshly laid asphalt/tarmac.

The role of LGV Driver C+E (Low Loader)will also be responsible for:

  • Operate low loaders to transport heavy plant and machinery to and from sites
  • Deliver fuel safely to fixed and mobile plant in line with environmental and safety regulations
  • Transport stores, materials, and equipment to operational sites
  • Operate spray tankers to apply bitumen safely and accurately on freshly laid asphalt/tarmac
  • Carry out daily vehicle checks, complete defect reporting, and ensure vehicles are roadworthy
  • Ensure correct load securing, handling, and unloading practices
  • Handle hazardous materials (fuel and bitumen) safely in accordance with ADR and COSHH regulations.
  • Carry out basic vehicle care (cleaning, refuelling, oil/water checks) and maintain cleanliness and organisation of vehicles, fuel storage, and stores equipment

The role of LGV Driver C+E works a varying work pattern and includes excellent remuneration for both overnight and weekend working, which is expected as part of this role.

Ideal Candidate:

The ideal candidate for the role of LGV Driver C+E (Low Loader) will have Cat C+E licence and a valid Driver CPC qualification as well as driving experience ideally gained within a similar role/industry

Suitable candidates for the role of LGV Driver C+E (Low Loader) will also have:

  • Willingness to learn bitumen spraying operations and gain role-specific certification/training
  • Flexibility to travel and stay overnight when required for training or operational needs
  • Understanding of load security, lifting operations, and plant machinery types (training provided if required)
  • Strong awareness of health, safety, and environmental responsibilities, particularly around hot bitumen handling and application
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and adapt to changing priorities
  • Good communication skills and a professional approach
  • Strong focus on safety and compliance
  • Reliable, punctual, and professional approach to work
  • Open-minded, flexible attitude, willing to learn new skills
  • Strong problem-solving and practical thinking skill

The following are preferred but not essential as training can be provided:


  • Proven experience as a HGV Driver
  • Experience in operating low loaders, spray tankers, or fuel bowsers
  • Knowledge of bitumen handling, heating, and spraying processes
  • Mechanical awareness of plant equipment and heavy vehicles
  • ADR qualification for fuel and bitumen transport
