Summary


We are looking for a Registered Nurse to join our dedicated and highly professional team at Priscilla Bacon Lodge.

For over 40 years, NCH&C has provided specialist palliative and end-of-life care for patients across Norfolk and Waveney.

Priscilla Bacon Lodge is a 24-bed inpatient unit, with 16 consultant-led specialist palliative care beds and eight nurse-led Continuing Health Care Fast Track beds. While many patients receive excellent support from primary care teams and other NCH&C colleagues, those with more complex needs benefit from the expert input of our specialist multidisciplinary team.

Patients admitted with specialist palliative care needs may require a period of assessment, symptom control, treatment for acute reversible conditions, psychological support, or end-of-life care. For patients in the nurse-led Continuing Health Care pathway, our team focuses on providing compassionate end-of-life care during the final days.

The postholder is expected to deliver expert, evidence based clinical care for patients with life-threatening illness who have complex specialist palliative care needs. It is acknowledged that this role requires a level of specialist knowledge and skills as well as mental and emotional effort.

The post holder will is responsible for caring for patients with life threatening illness with complex needs. Also for their families and carers
To work effectively as part of the multidisciplinary team ensuring continuity and quality in the provision of patient care.
To recognise and deliver duty of care within legal and NMC requirements, Trust Policies and Clinical Governance
To contribute to the development and evaluation of nursing practice on the unit.

To adhere to the Nursing and Midwifery Code of Conduct for Nurses, Midwives and Nursing Associates and work within their scope of practice following the professional standards of practice and behaviours for nurses, midwives and nursing associates and the standards of proficiency.

To provide holistic specialist palliative care nursing assessment of patients and carers with highly complex needs, identifying priorities of care, implementing strategies in order to give this care and evaluation to ensure the maintenance of clinical excellence.
To engage with the development of nursing practice in line with changing and expanding clinical practice guidelines.
The post holder will have a good knowledge and understanding of Specialist Palliative Care.
