About the Role:
IMT Medical Transport Limited are seeking dedicated and professional individuals to join our team as Vulnerable Patient Transfer (VPM) escorts and Non-Emergency Patient Transport Services (NEPTS) staff. In this vital role, you will be responsible for safely transporting secure and vulnerable patients and non-emergency patients to and from healthcare facilities, ensuring their comfort, dignity, and safety throughout the journey.
Key Responsibilities:
· Safely transfer patients between hospitals, care homes, mental health units, and other healthcare settings.
· Ensure the patient is safe and treated with respect and dignity, following legal and ethical guidelines.
· Provide emotional reassurance and physical support to patients.
· Monitor patients closely, responding appropriately to any behavioural or medical requirements.
· Liaise effectively with clinical staff, carers, patients, and occasionally family members.
· Communicate clearly, calmly, and respectfully with patients, including those in distress or crisis.
· Recognise signs of distress, aggression, or deterioration in patient behaviour.
· Use de-escalation techniques and follow approved procedures in managing challenging behaviour.
· Always uphold safeguarding principles.
· Treat patients with dignity, respect, and sensitivity to their mental health or personal circumstances.
· Adhere to infection prevention and control protocols, including cleaning the vehicle and equipment.
· Use PPE appropriately.
· Conduct pre- and post-shift vehicle inspections (fuel, tyres, equipment, cleanliness).
· Report defects and ensure the vehicle is roadworthy and properly stocked.
· Accurately document transport details, any incidents, and handover information.
· Submit reports promptly and professionally.
· Adhere to relevant legislation, guidance (e.g., Mental Health Act), CQC standards and company policies.
· Attend mandatory training.
· Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure safe and efficient patient transfers.
· Maintain a calm, courteous, and professional manner always.
Requirements:
All of the required learning and development qualifications and checks are mandatory for this position. Full training to meet this compliance level will be provided.
· Ability to operate within safeguarding frameworks for adults and children.
· Full, clean UK driving licence, held for at least 2 years.
· C1 category driving licence is beneficial but not compulsory for operating larger patient transport vehicles.
· Strong verbal communication skills – able to calm, reassure, and de-escalate tense situations.
· Professionalism when interacting with healthcare staff, patients, and families.
· Clear written communication for accurate incident and transport reporting.
· Calm under pressure and able to remain composed during emergencies or when dealing with distressed patients.
· High level of empathy, respect, and emotional resilience.
Working Hours:
Full-time
4 on / 4 off shift pattern
12 hour shifts
