· Ensure the patient is safe and treated with respect and dignity, following legal and ethical guidelines.

· Provide emotional reassurance and physical support to patients.

· Monitor patients closely, responding appropriately to any behavioural or medical requirements.

· Liaise effectively with clinical staff, carers, patients, and occasionally family members.

· Communicate clearly, calmly, and respectfully with patients, including those in distress or crisis.

· Recognise signs of distress, aggression, or deterioration in patient behaviour.

· Use de-escalation techniques and follow approved procedures in managing challenging behaviour.

· Always uphold safeguarding principles.

· Treat patients with dignity, respect, and sensitivity to their mental health or personal circumstances.

· Adhere to infection prevention and control protocols, including cleaning the vehicle and equipment.

· Report defects and ensure the vehicle is roadworthy and properly stocked.

· Accurately document transport details, any incidents, and handover information.

· Submit reports promptly and professionally.

· Adhere to relevant legislation, guidance (e.g., Mental Health Act), CQC standards and company policies.

· Attend mandatory training.

· Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure safe and efficient patient transfers.

· Maintain a calm, courteous, and professional manner always.

Requirements:

All of the required learning and development qualifications and checks are mandatory for this position. Full training to meet this compliance level will be provided.

· Ability to operate within safeguarding frameworks for adults and children.

· Full, clean UK driving licence, held for at least 2 years.

· C1 category driving licence is beneficial but not compulsory for operating larger patient transport vehicles.

· Strong verbal communication skills – able to calm, reassure, and de-escalate tense situations.

· Professionalism when interacting with healthcare staff, patients, and families.

· Clear written communication for accurate incident and transport reporting.
