The Postgraduate Research (PGR) Coordinator is a full-time permanent post within the Graduate School, providing technical and practical support to the PGR Manager in the management of research degree-related committees and high-quality administration for PGR students. The postholder will coordinate key tasks associated with support for PGR students, providing advice and guidance in the areas of responsibility for PGR administration and undertaking activities associated with PGR student administration and support.

Key duties will include:

Coordination and support for PGR administrative procedures from enrolment to award.
Finance processes including fee tracking and adjustment, bursary payments, expenses claims and internal transactions relating to research degrees.
Establishing and maintaining systems and procedures for PGR student records and progression.
Proactive support for two Research Degree Boards (RDBs) including preparation of agendas and papers, minute taking and following up on RDB actions.
Support for PGR student engagement and progress including immigration compliance processes and casework managed through the PGR Progress Support Policy.
Ensuring accuracy of data and contributing information and data for monitoring and reporting purposes.
Providing high quality customer service, effective communication and support for PGR students, their supervisors and other staff and stakeholders.
Competent use of computerised systems for student and research degree administration and management.
Contribution to the development of research-degree related policies and guidance.

About You

You will be able to demonstrate several key skills including written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, organisational skills and the ability to manage your own workload. You will have great attention to detail enabling you to achieve high levels of accuracy, including the ability to take accurate minutes. You will have experience of working effectively as part of a team and supporting customers, students or similar service users, alongside experience of working with computerised and online systems. You will be familiar with Microsoft Office applications including formatting and layout of documents. You will ideally have previous experience of working in the education sector in an administrative or student support post, with experience of preparing for and supporting formal meetings, and the ability to format, filter and extract data from spreadsheets.

Qualifications

Essential;

Educated to A-level/NVQ Level 3 or equivalent including A-C in GCSE Maths and English Language or equivalent.

Desirable;

Degree and/or equivalent qualifications or experience.

The Research and Knowledge Exchange Directorate

The Graduate School, located in the Research and Knowledge Exchange Directorate, is the University’s central hub for postgraduate research (PGR) degree administration, quality assurance and researcher development. It manages research degrees programmes, from enrolment, development and progression, through to examination and award, including administration of the Research Degrees Committee, Research Degrees Boards and the Research Ethics Committee. The team provides guidance and support for PGR students and supervisors, including support for progress and engagement. The team also works closely with other specialist teams within the university including admissions, academic registry, student support, international student services, immigration compliance and academic partnerships.
