The Brownsword Group has created arguably the most iconic collection of historic countryside and city centre hotels, all wonderful properties set within beautiful grounds and cities, all with their own stories to share. Reporting to the Regional General Manager, we are now looking for a hands on, operational Hotel Manager to lead our small hotel (21 bedrooms with breakfast offering) and it's team to success in Chelsea. We’re looking for a good manager, someone who knows what guest service is all about, whilst also being commercially minded. We want someone who will coach and develop the hotel team, whilst delivering great service and achieving the hotel's commercial goals.

Location: A discreet, Georgian townhouse located just off the King’s Road, Sydney House Chelsea is understated but contemporary in style.

It gives our team the chance to work in one of the most popular and vibrant areas of London, just a couple of minutes' walk from South Kensington tube station.

SERVICE CHARGE-We pay our team service charge each month! This service charge all goes into one pot, and 100% of that service charge is then shared amongst all the team at the hotel-every penny received is paid out to the team.

Hours: Full time. The role may work across any day of the week, but given Sydney House Chelsea is busiest during the week, this does mean weekends off are possible.


Bonus: We have a General Manager bonus scheme at all our hotels- we'll let you know all about this and GM perks and benefits at the interview!

This role would suit an Operations/ Deputy Manager looking for their first GM appointment, or even an experienced hotel Head of Department, looking for a bigger and broader challenge. This is a very hands on role where as General Manager you will get involved in everything from taking part in the operation to managing the building itself.


Our General Manager will:

  • Be hands on and be involved in everything, from helping housekeeping and checking in guests to managing the P&L
  • Ensure that overall sales and revenue targets meet budgeted targets agreed, and manage costs in line with revenue
  • Be charismatic and engaging
  • Develop and lead the people culture of the property with engaging and committed communication
  • Ensure that all the team are committed to exceeding guest expectations and enhancing the guest journey at every opportunity
  • Have previous experience in a management role within a hotel operation
  • Have strong IT skills and be able to use digital platforms well
  • Work well with the central support teams, implementing group strategies whilst also driving local activity to make the hotel great!

Our GM's meet at least twice a year in person and also have fortnightly calls- so there is always an opportunity to ask questions, get support and find out what is going on across the business.
