Supporting responsibilities: *Participation in teaching and training of junior staff and those in other medical disciplines, nursing, midwifery and support staff as appropriate. *Participation in regional neonatal training days to maintain neonatal skills *Participation in Neonatal Training and simulation days to maintain the skills of colleagues working in Good Hope SCU *Research training, including GCP and clinical trial administration *Participation in clinical governance activities including audits, and other supporting activities as directed by the needs of the service. *Responding and engaging with any complaints or investigations within the trust *Attending statutory, essential and mandatory training. *Attending and keeping up to date with child safeguarding training as per trust requirements *Educational Supervision of trainees. The unit has 12 critical care cots, 20 special care and 7 transitional cots. Each year there are over 800 admissions to our Neonatal service. We provide 1800 days Intensive care, 2650 High Dependency almost 6000 days of Special care and 3500 Transitional care. The Unit has facilities for conventional ventilation, high frequency oscillation and inhaled nitric oxide. It has its own Doppler ultrasound machine and equipment for cooling infants and CFM monitoring. The unit is the designated Network cooling centre. Neonatal staff perform routine cranial ultrasonography and echocardiography on site and excellent radiological facilities, including CT and MRI scanning, are also available. We have Transitional Care facilities and an award winning Neonatal Outreach team which help with early discharges. Weekly perinatal meetings are held with the Fetal Medicine team. Very few cases are referred away from the Trust for perinatal care. Most are delivered locally and stabilised before transfer out for surgery at Birmingham Children's Hospital which is approximately 4 miles away. All surgery takes place at the Children's Hospital and a dedicated surgical liaison nurse from the surgical unit visits infants receiving their post-op care on the unit. A detailed job plan will be confirmed after appointment between the appointee, the present consultants and Clinical Service Lead for Neonates. Job plans are annualised over a 42 week working year.
