The Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking an exceptional Consultant Hepatologist to join our enthusiastic & forward-thinking team. We are looking for someone to innovate with a mature outlook with an interest in research.
TheDepartmentofGastroenterology&Hepatologyisa large, highly developed & innovative department.It has seen massive investment over the last ten years with a large expansion of all aspects of the service.
The hepatology service is delivered by 2 consultants, 1 Consultant Nurse as well as specialistnurses. A unique community based Hepatitis C program in conjunction with the hospital based service was highly commended in the National Quality & Care awards in 2014.
Inpatienthepatologyisdeliveredbyluminal gastroenterologists&hepatologistsbut advise on management of complex inpatient hepatology is readily available.An Alcohol LiaisonTeamwascommissionedinApril2015toaidwiththedeliveryofbrief interventions to prevent alcohol related admissions & are available on the wards 7 days a week.
The hospital boasts a7 dayroamingparacentesis servicegiven bytheinterventional radiologynurses.Wehaveakeeninterestinthedevelopmentofend oflifepathways & are also proud have achieved IQILS accreditation level 2.
Overthelastfewyears£3.4mhasbeenspentonfullyrefurbishingandexpandingthe endoscopyunit.Thedepartmentboasts6roomsontheRoyal Cornwall site andone room at the West Cornwall site.In addition, a new mobile trans-nasal endoscopy service has been approved and will be operational in the next few months.The department has won awards for innovations in green endoscopy including being the firstintheUKtoutiliseEntonoxscrubbingequipment.Theendoscopyworkforcehas also been dramatically expanded and includes new consultant and non-consultantendoscopists.
Bowel cancerscreeninghasbeen well establishedsince2009.Wearecurrentlyfully age extended from 56-75 and will shortly be extending invitations to 54 year olds.
Wehavealwaysperformed wellatQAvisitsandmeetkeyKPIs.Wecurrentlyhave seven accredited screening colonoscopists performing lists across two sites and afullystaffedadminandSSPnursingteam.Weareactiveinnational researchstudies including SEAFOOD and COLO-PREVENT.
