Please see the full job description for more information Managerial Responsibility Assesses nursing care to be undertaken. Organises and deploys staff according to workload, ensuring appropriate skill-mix and reporting any deficiencies to the Unit Manager or senior nurse as appropriate. Co-ordinates the care given by the inter-professional team and other staff in the ward/department. Supervises, monitors and evaluates the delivery of care to maintain the agreed standards, including participation in benchmarking and clinical governance groups. Ensures all untoward incidents, complaints and grievances are dealt with in accordance with Trust policies. Contributes to the planning, monitoring and control of ward resources, assisting the managers to keep expenditure within budget. Acts as a resource, support and knowledge-base on child-related issues within the Trust. Facilitates health promotion within Government guidelines. Participates in the decision-making process with regard to the transfer of children to appropriate units internal and external to the Trust. Clinical Responsibility Carries out the assessment of children, identifying nursing problems and needs in conjunction with the patient and families where possible, and with appropriate members of the inter-professional team. Ensures that skilled, evidence-based care is given to children and their families, and, in accordance with care planned, recognises the diverse needs of children and their families. Evaluates the effectiveness of interventions and updates care plans and goals to take account of any changing needs of the child. Ensures the significance of data relating to the child's condition and progress is interpreted and actedupon. Assesses risks to children and families that need to be managed in relation to their health and wellbeing within the scope of nursing practice. Works collaboratively as part of the Patient Flow Team, ensuring children are nursed in the correct environment according to unit guidelines. Will rotate to other clinical areas as Service dictates such as: Childrens Outpatient Department, Neonatal Unit and Emergency Department. Assesses the learning needs of individual children and relatives where appropriate. Evaluates the teaching provided and takes necessary action to achieve objectives. Able to recognise vulnerable children and adults and to respond in accordance with Trust policy. Promotes effective communication between children, relatives and staff, and supports bereaved and distressed children, relatives and staff. Participates and communicates effectively with the inter-professional team and other agencies as necessary. Ensures that when children or families raise concerns they are identified and addressed where possible, and that informal complaints are dealt with appropriately. Professional Responsibility Works within the statutory framework governing nursing practice, acting as a role model and maintaining a high standard of professional conduct. Provides support and guidance to colleagues through professionalism and understanding in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Councils Code of Professional Conduct. Acts as an advocate on behalf of children and relatives, ensuring interests, rights and privacy of children and families are respected. Identifies own needs for professional development, education and in-service training. Recognises, when appropriate, the need to widen the scope of professional practice by developing skills and competencies in order to meet changing needs of childrens services. Is fully conversant with all policies and procedures, including major accidents, resuscitation, fire, health and safety, disciplinary, grievance, industrial relations and child protection. Complies with the Trusts uniform policy. Educational Responsibility Responsible for the teaching of all learners in nursing practices, by acting as role model, supervisor or mentor. Participates in the induction of staff, including preceptorship. Contributes to the assessment of competence in clinical practice.
