Crynodeb

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part time Social Worker (30 hours) to join the East London Mother & Baby Unit.

You will need to be a qualified social worker with experience of working with adults and children including within Perinatal Mental Health. This role will also involve undertaking AMHP duty so applicants must also be a trained AMHP.

The East London Mother and Baby Unit is a specialist service that aims to provide mental health care for mothers and support in the care of their
infants. The unit provides an integrated approach to care planning and promotes recovery.

We provide care and treatment for women with a pre-existing mental illness who suffer a relapse during pregnancy or after giving birth, such as bipolar affective disorder, schizophrenia, recurrent depressive disorder, severe anxiety disorder and schizo-affective disorder or women who develop an acute mental illness such as puerperal psychosis or depression during or after pregnancy.

We will also admit women who are at significant risk of becoming unwell in the perinatal period (prophylactic admissions) who have established diagnosis of mental illness and are already known to mental health services – referrals will be considered from 32 weeks gestation.

The aim of the unit is to ensure that all women who have young infants and who require admission can remain with their baby, enabling the
special bond between mother and baby to be unbroken at a critical time in the life of a young family

To work as a member of the Inpatient mother and baby unit multi-disciplinary team representing a social work perspective to women experiencing mental health difficulties in pregnancy and up to 1 year postnatal.

The successful candidate will be also responsible for undertaking a significant amount of the clinical work involving completing holistic assessments of needs, mental state examination, risk assessments as well as other specific assessments, especially care and support needs assessments according to Care Act 2014 and career’s assessments.

The post holder will act as Safeguarding Adults Manager in any cases where adults safeguarding concerns were identified and/or received from the Local Authority.

As an AMHP they will be expected to complete Mental health act assessment as guided by the Mental Health Act 1983

To offer expert advice and guidance to the team on both children and adult safeguarding issues, including writing reports and representing/supporting the Mother and Baby Unit at child protection conferences and other relevant meetings.

To act as an autonomous senior clinician being accountable for service users with complex child or adult safeguarding needs.

To participate in the mentorship, education and supervision of social work students on practice placement as well as other students on placement within the service.

Our mission is to make a positive difference to people's lives by improving the quality of life for all we serve. Our values are: We Care, We Respect, We are Inclusive – so we are looking for people who live and breathe these qualities when supporting service users and carers, and in their relationships with colleagues in the Trust and our partner organisations.

Please see the attached Job description and person specification for more details about the roles and responsibilities.
