Indefinite Contract

Full Time - 37 Hours per week

Hastings Borough Council is recruiting a driven and proactive Senior Income Recovery Officer to join our Housing Options Team.

This is a brand new role, created to strengthen our approach to income recovery and tenancy sustainment. We are looking for an experienced leader to support residents, reduce arrears, and help people sustain their homes.

As the Senior Income Recovery Officer, you’ll manage the day-to-day operation of our income recovery service. You’ll lead a dedicated team to maximise rent and service charge collection across our housing stock, including council-owned, leased, and private nightly paid accommodation. You’ll also oversee the recovery of other housing-related debts such as loans for securing private rented housing and removal/storage costs.

This role combines leadership with hands-on expertise. You’ll develop and implement strategies, train and support staff to handle complex cases, and build strong partnerships with internal teams and external agencies including the DWP, debt services, and housing advocacy organisations. Your focus will be on delivering excellent customer service while ensuring compliance with legislation, policies, and procedures.

You’ll need significant experience in housing income recovery, proven supervisory skills, and a strong understanding of housing law and welfare benefits. You’ll also have excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving abilities, alongside the drive to achieve targets and support tenancy sustainment.

For a full Job Description and Person Specification please see the attached document.

The role offers flexibility for hybrid working, however it will be primarily office-based.

Closing date for applications: 19th September @ 12:00pm
