Sense is recruiting for a head of people operations to join the team on a 12 month fixed term contract. This role will help drive organisational effectiveness by leading a high-performing people operations function, ensuring a seamless employee and volunteer experience, from attraction and onboarding to payroll and workforce data.

This is a key leadership role, shaping employer brand, embedding inclusive and legally compliant processes, and providing data-driven insights to senior leaders. This role will inspire and empower teams to deliver service excellence across HR administration, recruitment, systems, and payroll.

Key Responsibilities
Lead, develop, and inspire the people operations team.
Oversee recruitment, contracts, onboarding, payroll, and data management.
Drive continuous improvement of HR systems (HRIS, ATS, LMS, Payroll).
Use people data and analytics to inform strategic workforce decisions.
Champion inclusive and accessible operational practices across all processes.
Act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders on people operations matters.
Ensure compliance with GDPR, employment law, and safeguarding frameworks.
Manage external suppliers and ensure value-for-money partnerships.
Support change projects including restructures and organisational growth.
About You
We’re looking for a confident, inclusive leader with significant senior-level HR operations experience and a strong track record of managing multidisciplinary teams. You’ll combine technical expertise with a values-led approach and a focus on service excellence. You will bring:

Proven senior-level experience across HR administration, recruitment, payroll, and systems.
Strong knowledge of UK employment law, GDPR, and safer recruitment practices.
Experience improving high-volume recruitment processes and payroll governance.
Strong working knowledge of HR systems (e.g., iTrent, Reach ATS, Payrite, LMS).
Ability to use people data and dashboards to drive decision-making.
Inclusive leadership style, with experience coaching managers and driving high performance.
Strong stakeholder management, project management, and problem-solving skills.
Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, particularly disability equality.
High IT literacy and experience leveraging digital tools to improve service delivery.
