Associate Employment Law Partner

12 Month FTC - Maternity Cover

Location: Birmingham office 2 days per week with national travel requiredReporting to: Director of Employee Relations


Are you an Employment Law professional with a passion for navigating complex employee relations and Employment Tribunal cases? We’re seeking an Associate Employment Law Partner to support the Employment Law function on all aspects of employment law and employee relations with particular focus on progressing to managing Employment Tribunal activity and advocacy.,


Key Accountabilities

•Supporting with reviewing claims and assisting with ET3 response drafting

•Working closely with Employment Law Partners to devise case management and defence strategy per tribunal claim, including early identification of risk areas or jurisdictional defences

•Advising/influencing stakeholders on the prospects and risks of each claim, the proposed case management and defence strategy, and the value of the claim following consultation with Employment Law Partners

•Meeting regularly with key stakeholders for sectors – MD’s, Operation Directors, Head of People and People Operations Director to build solid relationships

•Supporting with preparation of documents for hearing including tribunal bundles, witness statements, counter schedules of loss, skeleton arguments and any other documents as required

•Preparing and submitting case management applications in accordance with the case management/defence strategy with the support and consultation of Employment Law Partners

•Shadowing Employment Law Partners and assisting in preparation in representing Compass Group at all types of hearing including case management preliminary hearings, substantive preliminary hearings, judicial mediation and full merits hearings including remedy

•Undertake extensive review of employment law materials and guidance for training purposes online via Practical Law Company and via external training providers

•Providing feedback and drafting lessons learned documents to stakeholders at the conclusion of all claims and Tribunal hearings

•Liaising professionally and effectively with key internal stakeholders including line managers of all levels of seniority, witnesses, Employee Relations team, HR team (leadership team and field-based as necessary), payroll and resourcing amongst others, with a view to building positive and collaborative working relationships

•Liaising professionally and effectively with external parties such as ACAS, unions, solicitors and barristers as part of the Tribunal case management process

•To advise line managers and HR on settlement agreement process and settlement agreement terms

•Negotiating directly with employees’ solicitors where appropriate with a view to ensuring exit as expediently and cost-effectively as possible

•Reviewing and re-drafting settlement agreements in line with Company guidelines and under supervision of Employment Law Manager

•Providing advice and guidance to ER (Infosys), People team and line managers on complex internal cases on an as-required basis with the support and consultation of Employment Law Partners

•Providing advice and guidance to designated sectors on ad hoc projects

•Reviewing People Policies

•Undertake legal research and provide updates to the Employment Law team in relation to new case law and or legislation

•Reviewing and approving IT access requests for designated sectors


Person Specifications

•Understanding of Employment Law

•Willingness to undertake training in relation to Employment Law

•Willingness to undertake a career path to progress to advocacy in Employment Tribunals

•Good Stakeholder engagement

•Excellent organisational and diary management skills

•Strong problem-solving and analytical skills

•Strong oral and written presentation skills, able to communicate and influence at all levels of seniority internally and externally

•Good attention to detail

•Good negotiating skills

•Able to communicate difficult advice effectively in straightforward, non-ambiguous terms

•Able to work on own initiative and manage caseload with minimal supervision

•Able to prioritise workload
