As a colleague within our team of Accuracy Checking Technicians you will be working in both the inpatient and new outpatient dispensaries and be responsible for supplying oral chemotherapy and supportive medicines to patients of The Christie Trust.


ACTs with little or no prior chemotherapy experience are welcomed to apply, full and comprehensive training and support will be provided by our existing expert team members, many of whom have come from a community pharmacy background.


Current registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council is a prerequisite to applying for this position.

1. Contributing to the delivery of exceptional pharmacy services to The Christie NHS Foundation Trust
2. Participate in inpatient, outpatient and discharge dispensing including unlicensed and controlled drugs (CD).
3. Perform final accuracy checks on prescriptions that have previously been clinically checked by a pharmacist in accordance with Trust and departmental procedures.
4. Operate with Trust electronic dispensing systems, iQemo and CMM.





The Christie Pharmacy Ltd Company (TCP) is a wholly owned subsidiary company, which is part of The Christie NHS Foundation Trust. The company was formed in December 2017 to provide a high-quality pharmacy service to both inpatients and outpatients of the Trust.

Our services include:
• dispensing and supplying medication to inpatients in wards and clinics
• supporting The Christie at Home service, allowing patients to receive certain cancer treatments from the comfort of their own home.
• providing bespoke medication for The Christie at Salford, The Christie at Oldham and fourteen other outreach sites
• wholesale supplying medicines and devices to all wards on the Withington site

The Christie NHS Foundation Trust manages the Christie Hospital which is one of the largest cancer treatment centres in Europe. The Christie treats 40,000 patients per year, delivering over 30,000 chemotherapy treatments and is the first specialist hospital to be awarded ‘outstanding’ twice by the Care Quality Commission.

We are based in Manchester and serve a population of 3.2 million across Greater Manchester & Cheshire, but as a national specialist around 15% patients are referred to us from other parts of the country.

Main duties of the role

1. Contributing to the delivery of exceptional pharmacy services to The Christie NHS Foundation Trust
2. Participate in inpatient, outpatient and discharge dispensing including unlicensed and controlled drugs (CD).
3. Undertake cytotoxic dispensing in accordance with departmental procedures and criteria dictated by COSHH regulations.
4. Perform final accuracy checks on prescriptions that have previously been clinically checked by a pharmacist in accordance with Trust and departmental procedures.
5. Undertake dispensing of pre-prepared parenteral nutrition supplies.
6. Participate in annual Personal Development Reviews (PDR), agreeing on set objectives in line with company targets.
7. Operate with Trust electronic dispensing systems, iQemo and CMM.
8. Raise stock concerns promptly with the pharmacy stores team.
9. Have knowledge and appreciation of pharmacy stock procurement and storage procedures.
10. To assist in the maintenance of stock levels and ensuring efficient turnover whilst maintaining quality and drug integrity.
11. Provide occasional support to the stores team during stocktaking operations.
12. Participate in the compiling and checking of ward stock ‘top-ups’.
13. Undertake occasional extemporaneous dispensing.
14. Participate in the dispensing and checking of patient discharge medicines.
15. Maintain accurate record keeping of controlled drugs receipted into the pharmacy and subsequent supplies made, reporting any discrepancy or concerns promptly to the CD accountable officer.
16. Respond to telephone and face to face queries of a routine or technical nature from a diverse range of Trust staff, referring to an appropriate member of the pharmacy team when appropriate.
17. Undertake patient counselling in the outpatient area, sensitive to the occasional distressing situations encountered.
18. Work collaboratively with other members of the broader pharmacy organisation, aseptics and clinical trials.
19. Provide mentoring, induction and training to students, preregistration pharmacists and dispensers.
20. Assist in the destruction of returned and expired controlled drugs, following instruction from the CD accountable officer.
21. Participate in scheduled Saturday/Sunday and Bank holiday rotas.
22. Comply with COSHH, HSE, company and Trust procedures and safe systems of working.
23. Maintain personal portfolio of company-specific mandatory training modules.
24. Comply with Trust infection control policies.
25. Take personal responsibility for managing own health and wellbeing.
