We are looking for a dynamic and compassionate occupational therapist, for a B7 Team Leader role in our QMC Major Trauma / Trauma and spines service. The team covers the wards on the QMC campus and works in collaboration with the other OT teams as well as the wider MDT.

We welcome applications from experienced B6 OTs looking to move to B7 roles, as well as already-established B7s.

Co-leading the team with a B7 Advanced Practitioner, this role offers expert clinical advice to therapy and specialty teams, supporting staff with decision making for patients with complex needs, upskilling and service development. Team leadership includes promoting high-quality patient care through monitoring performance, offering supervision and development conversations, and ensuring the team has resources and equipment required for their roles. Support will be given to develop these skills where needed.

The successful candidate will have wide-ranging rehab skills, including acute inpatient rehabilitation, splinting & bracing as well as discharge planning.

Developing true MDT working as well as skills in creating professional networks to influence service improvement, educating others, team leadership and management will be an advantage.

Please refer to job description and person specification for full details of the job. Core responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Co-leading the Major Trauma / trauma & spinal OT service in a dynamic and growing speciality, providing a responsive and timely service.

Providing a supportive environment for team members under your direct management, including undertaking annual appraisals and managing health and wellbeing.

Contributing to the education and teaching of all team members including students, preceptees, B6s and support workers.

Ensuring that high quality, evidenced based practice, service development and education underpin the service delivery.

Ensuring that NUH values and behaviours are embedded in everyday practice.

You will have excellent communication and team working skills, with the ability to apply problem-solving skills to patient care and leadership tasks. As this role will include working with patients and their families during potentially stressful life events, including end of life situations, a compassionate and resilient character is required.

This post will allow an OT with a keen interest in team leadership and inpatient care to expand clinical skills and leadership of a busy and responsive service, with a focus on leading and developing staff to support patient flow whilst promoting excellent patient care.

With over 19,000 staff, we are one of the biggest employers in the city with a central role in supporting the health and wellbeing of our local population. We play a leading role in research, education and innovation.

Come and join our wonderful team at NUH. We are big believers in diversity and welcome new ideas to help develop our team in order to deliver world class healthcare to the vast patient populations we serve. With endless personal development opportunities available, at NUH we will endeavour to turn your job into a career!

We particularly welcome applications from people who identify as Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic, or Disabled, as we are striving to be better represented at NUH

The successful applicant will demonstrate advanced level occupational therapy skills in assessment and diverse interventions to facilitate rehabilitation and discharge planning.

A willingness to learn and develop further, both clinically and professionally and to lead on this within the team is essential. The successful applicant must be open minded to new ways of working and lead on this. The ideal individual for this role needs to be flexible, dynamic and forward thinking. Strong leadership qualities are essential in this post, alongside advocating for the OT role in the MDT setting.
