Are you looking for a career where you can make a life-changing difference to children and families? Do you want to be part of a team that gives children brighter futures and supports carers in their vital role? As a Support Worker with Foster Wales (Gwent Region), you’ll have the chance to do exactly that. This is more than a job – it’s a unique opportunity to be at the heart of fostering, working alongside children, their families, and foster carers to provide the right help, at the right time. Every day brings new challenges, new rewards, and the knowledge that your work is helping children feel safe, supported, and loved.

About the role

In this role, you’ll be part of a close-knit and passionate regional team, supporting parent and child foster placements across Gwent. Your work will be varied and meaningful – one day you could be helping a parent build confidence in their new role, the next you might be planning and running a support group for foster carers or assisting with a child’s transition into a new placement.

You’ll be a key point of contact for families, providing practical and emotional support where it’s needed most. This might include attending events, supervising contact sessions, offering post-placement guidance, or stepping in with hands-on interventions to ensure placements are stable and successful. You’ll also be involved in recruitment and training, helping us find and prepare the foster carers who can provide safe and nurturing homes for children in our communities.

This is a role full of variety, where no two days are ever the same. You’ll be at the heart of making sure children, families, and carers feel supported, valued, and empowered – and you’ll see first-hand the positive impact your work has on their lives.

About you

We know that the right person for this role is someone who cares deeply about making a difference. You’ll be someone who can build trusting relationships, stay calm under pressure, and bring empathy and understanding into everything you do. Teamwork is central to this role, so you’ll enjoy working alongside colleagues, carers, and professionals, sharing ideas and supporting one another to deliver the best outcomes for children.

You don’t need to have all the answers on day one – what matters most is your commitment to learning, growing, and being there for families in their time of need. You’ll have access to regular training, professional development, and supervision, so you’ll always feel supported and able to develop your skills. If you’re looking for a career where you’ll be valued, supported, and able to make a genuine difference – this is it.

About us

Foster Wales is the national network of not-for-profit fostering services, working together across Wales to find and support foster families for local children.
