A Vacancy at East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust.
The NIV/Sleep Service is the largest domiciliary service in the South East, outside of London. We have a caseload of over 600 patients receiving NIV therapy, and support the sleep service with new patient assessments, seeing up to 50 new patients a week who have a new diagnosis of sleep disordered breathing. Overall the Sleep service has over 8,000 patients in receipt of CPAP therapy.
Our team consists of Advanced/Enhanced Practitioners, Sleep and Respiratory Physiologists, Associate Practitioners/Physiologists and admin. We provide a service to QEQM, Buckland Hospital - Dover, Royal Victoria Hospital – Folkestone and Kent and Canterbury Hospital. We consider ourselves an inclusive service that welcomes staff from a variety of healthcare backgrounds, including nursing, AHP and Physiology, which provides a varied skill set within the team. We work closely with the Respiratory Consultants, the Consultant Respiratory Nurse, the inpatient practitioners and physiology teams within the trust. We also have an excellent relationship with our Community Respiratory Team colleagues (KCHFT), ensuring our respiratory patient’s pathway is as smooth and streamlined as possible.
• To work as an autonomous practitioner responsible for providing professional management of sleep and respiratory failure patients as part of the Domiciliary Sleep/NIV team
• To organise and manage own caseload
• To line manage Associate Practitioners/Physiologists
• Develop a learning culture and facilitate interdisciplinary learning across respiratory/sleep medicine Enables others through mentoring, teaching and/or supervision of colleagues and students. Provides mentorship, opportunity for peer-learning and constructive feedback to guide, support, motivate and develop others in the multidisciplinary team
• Take responsibility for the day-to-day management of domiciliary NIV therapy within resource limitations
• Is an enhanced autonomous practitioner who undertakes a comprehensive assessment of all patients referred to the service. Includes assessments of medical, functional, social and mental status.
Develops a care plan and undertakes and co-ordinates its implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
