Summary

Location: Hybrid – your time will be split between our office/venue on Bristol Harbourside, and your home or wherever you like to work.

Please note, this role has a strong focus on in person delivery - offsite working alongside some weekend and out of hours event support will be required in the delivery of this role.

Salary: £28,521 per annum.

Please note, until 31 March 2026, the salary is £30,059 per annum to reflect the line management responsibility (see above).

About the role

Our Assistant Producer: Communities, is a proactive, practical role which works to share the We The Curious experience with the widest possible audience, both inside and outside our building. 

This role focuses on building and maintaining diverse community relationships across the city and working with local partners to better understand their needs. In response, you will develop playful and accessible experiences for the public which cultivate curiosity. 

Over time, you will help to identify opportunities to progress community relationships and support the development of collaborative projects, which offer deeper and more sustained engagement, creating space for underrepresented voices in STEM to be heard. 

This role is based in our Content Department which is at the forefront of how our audiences engage with us. We are responsible for the creation, development and delivery of content for our public and education programmes, special projects, digital outputs and exhibitions. We work closely with our Commercial Operations, Audience and Inclusion teams.

What will you do in this role?

Role specific responsibilities

_You will be the key contact within the Public Programming team for our Communities’ offer; in doing so, you will help to maintain positive relationships with existing community partners as well as identifying new opportunities for collaboration across the city.  

_You will lead on in-person delivery of Out and About events, working with community partners to understand their needs before scheduling and facilitating activities offsite at a range of locations across the city.

_You will support the continued development, management and evaluation of our Community Membership scheme, working closely with our Inclusion and Operational teams to ensure smooth running of the offer – from reviewing applications to drafting regular e-newsletter content and hosting Community Member meet ups in venue.

_You will support on the development and delivery of special projects – utilising partnerships and creative collaborations to create memorable experiences for our priority audiences - Young people, Disabled people, those experiencing socio economic inequity, and those who are not well represented in the science centre sector. 

_Your work should support the growth of strategic relationships within the Communities programme, creating opportunities for sustained engagement with our charity and identifying key opportunities for these partners over time. 

_You will work closely with the Producer: Public Programmes and our Inclusion Lead to grow and develop this area of the public programme over time, ensuring that our communities offer remains cohesive and sustainable, inputting on wider Inclusion and work strategies when required. 

_You will be highly motivated with a collaborative approach to working; confident at delivering events in partnership with a diverse range of collaborators and be an advocate for/or committed to meaningful participation and equitable practices.   

_You will provide comprehensive administrative and logistical support to the programme. You should therefore have excellent interpersonal and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise a varied workload, working accurately and calmly under pressure to deadline. 

_You will provide temporary line management to our Programme Assistant role (a fixed term funded position) until the 31 March 2025, ensuring the role is effective support for the programme whilst supporting their professional development and well-being.

What we're looking for from you

_You will demonstrate a commitment to inclusive practice and community engagement and be able to show a thorough understanding of the barriers to participation.

_You will have an established track record of delivering community engagement programmes for a diverse range of audiences, particularly those who are less well represented in the Science Centre sector.

_You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, comfortable working alongside lots of different people and in a range of different environments.

_You will demonstrate experience or understanding of how co-design/co-creation frameworks can be implemented within a public programme.

_You will have experience of project coordination and/or project management.

_You will be highly collaborative; a flexible and adaptable team player who is able to work independently or under supervision. 

_You will be extremely organised with excellent time management skills, demonstrating the ability to prioritise and a creative approach to problem solving. 

_You will have a good understanding of safeguarding and best practice, when working with children, young people and vulnerable adults.

Desirable

_Experience of working with different community-based organisations and partners within Bristol or more broadly.

_Experience of training and coordinating delivery staff, and/or supporting volunteers.

_Experience of working in a similar role and/or for a large public venue.
