We’re looking for a motivated and hardworking General Construction Operative (GCO) to join our team at HMS! This is a hands-on
role where you’ll be part of an integrated workforce delivering first-class facilities, maintenance, and construction services for
our customers and clients. You’ll carry out a wide variety of construction, environmental, and maintenance tasks – both internally
and externally – while ensuring high standards of quality, efficiency, and customer care.
What you'll be doing:
* Carrying out general construction and maintenance activities such as property clearances, excavations, demolition, fencing,
painting, groundworks, and remedial works.
* Supporting tradespeople on site and contributing to our “right first time” approach.
* Operating company vehicles, tools, and equipment safely and professionally.
* Managing materials and resources effectively to minimise waste and maximise efficiency.
* Liaising with customers, colleagues, and contractors to ensure work is completed to a high standard.
* Maintaining accurate documentation and complying with all health and safety requirements.
What we’re looking for:
* We’re seeking someone with a strong work ethic and a flexible, customer-focused approach.
* NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) in a construction or maintenance discipline.
* Experience in pointing, groundworks, or other construction-related tasks.
* Valid CSCS card at the appropriate level.
* Full UK or EU driving licence.
* Experience in maintenance, environmental clearance, or general labouring.
* Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
* Good communication skills with customers and colleagues.
Interview Process:
* Candidates will undergo in-person interviews, consisting of a competency-based interview.
Additional Information:
Each successful applicant will be required to complete the following pre-employment checks prior to a start date being agreed:
* Right to work verification
* Qualification certificate check
* 2x Completed references
* OH Health Questionnaire – Fit For Work
* DBS check (if required for role)
* Completion of all new starter documentation including signed T&C’s
