University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us.

Please see below for the detailed job description of the role.

Do you want to make a difference?

Are you looking for a new and different career pathway whilst maintaining and developing clinical and research delivery skills? We have a unique opportunity for enthusiastic Band 5 Nurses with Oncology experience and valid NMC registration to come and join our Research Team to begin or further a career in clinical research delivery.

No research experience is necessary as all training will be provided by our dedicated research education team; you will undergo a comprehensive induction and full research delivery training with ongoing training in a supportive environment. We are interested in applicants with sound clinical experience and a keen willingness to learn.

The research that we conduct at UHS is focused on the holistic approach to patient care and significantly contributes to the future progress of health care for all.

We truly make a difference to an individual's care and experience within UHS. We strive to ensure that research is considered as a treatment option for all eligible patients; closely working with clinical teams and within patients' clinical pathways to ensure that research opportunities and our research teams are expanding.

University Hospital Southampton is one of England's largest acute teaching Trusts, offering a wide range of learning and development opportunities to support your career aspirations.

Located on the south coast with an international airport and direct rail links to London, Southampton offers an ideal setting to live and work, with the New Forest, South Downs and Jurassic Coast.

We believe that using technology wisely shows strong time management and commitment to innovation. However, personalizing your recruitment application to highlight your unique skills and experiences is crucial. Relying too heavily on generic, AI-generated content instead of drawing from your own strengths and accomplishments may lead to your application being rejected if multiple candidates present identical or similar information.

At UHSwe’re committed to providing a flexible working environment where possible. Whether you are balancing family, study, or your wellbeing with your career, we want to support you so you can help our patients.

At UHS, we proudly champion individuality, recognizing that outstanding care is only possible with a diverse, inclusive team. We’re committed to creating an anti-racist, anti-discriminatory environment where everyone feels valued, safe, and empowered to make a meaningful impact in our communities. We welcome applicants of all backgrounds, identities, and experiences to join us in building a healthcare community where everyone can belong, thrive, and contribute.

We currently have a full time vacancy within our Early phase Oncology and ATIMP research nursing team.

ABOUT THE TEAM

There are approximately 300 Research Nurses, AHPs, Midwives and Clinical Trials Assistants, working together across the Trust, within our award winning teams to bring exciting research opportunities to UHS for the benefit of our patients and for the future of healthcare.

The Early phase Oncology and ATIMP research nursing team provide regular contact with patients participating in research that will make a real difference to future patient care. Working in clinical research you will join an enthusiastic, driven and caring research team, to help provide support to embedded research teams across the trust and within our dedicated NIHR clinical research facility, for new and existing studies.

There is no set shift rotation and the majority of the time you will work Monday to Friday 8-4pm; however we expect that you will also work a variety of flexible hours including long days, night, and weekends on an adhoc basis as per your research study requirements.

Following a robust induction and full research training as a Band 5 Research Nurse you will:

• Be responsible for providing specialist research and clinical care to research participants

• You will assist in the management, coordination and implementation of research studies in the Early Phase Oncology and ATIMP team

• You will provide clinical supervision to unregistered staff and students

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

• Current NMC Registered nurse with post registration experience within Oncology

• NHS or equivalent experience

• An interest in working in clinical research

• Good interpersonal communication, organisation and time management skills

• Clear written communication with attention to detail and IT literate

• Able to work flexible hours including shifts and night duty rotation

• Evidence of teaching and supporting learners in practice
