Metallurgical Engineer - Peterborough

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a skilled and experienced Metallurgical/Materials Engineer to join a leading team in Peterborough. This is a 12-month rolling contract with a competitive pay rate.

The Role

You will be a key member of the team, providing materials engineering support to UK facilities and investigating a wide range of materials across multiple applications. This is a highly technical role that requires you to build collaborative partnerships with both internal and external stakeholders.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Resolving design and manufacturing issues to ensure product quality and readiness.
  • Implementing and improving testing, development, and validation processes.
  • Participating in the adoption of new technologies and processes to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance quality.
  • Providing technical guidance and insights to various teams and departments.
  • Identifying and addressing metallurgical and manufacturing defects.

About You

The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of experience, with a background in metallurgy, preferably within the steel industry. You must have experience working in a materials laboratory.

Essential Requirements:

  • A degree in Materials Science/Metallurgy or extensive practical working experience in a materials laboratory.
  • Experience with metallurgical/materials evaluation of new products.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to convey technical information to both technical and non-technical colleagues.
  • Experience in providing technical guidance on product and process maintenance.
  • Ability to identify metallurgical/materials manufacturing defects and recommend process improvements.
  • Experience of working in an ISO17025 accredited laboratory
