Job summary The post holder will provide high quality respiratory medical practitioner services to patients referred to the Enhanced Respiratory Service from across Birmingham. The post holder will be a trainee clinical expert working to provide a comprehensive virtual assessment of patients presenting with non-urgent respiratory conditions and face-to-face review when deemed necessary. Key responsibilities The post holder will be expected to undertake the normal duties and responsibilities associated with being a trainee respiratory medical practitioner within a community clinic; responsibilities to include: Clinical 1. Maintaining the highest clinical standards at all times and in accordance with accepted good medical practice. 2. Ensuring they will make him/herself available to undertake, either supervised initially or once confirmed ready by Clinical Lead virtual and face-to-face consultations as expected from a respiratory medical practitioner within a community clinic, in accordance with the timetable as agreed. 3. Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems once confirmed ready by Clinical Lead 4. Assessing the healthcare needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems. 5. Consulting with patients and in line with evidence-based best clinical practice developing treatment plans 6. Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards. 7. Championing the organisations clinical governance programme for the provision of safe, high quality patient care 8. Referring the patient back to their own GP for on-going management, whilst promoting upskilling 9. Prescribing in accordance with local prescribing formulary (and generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate 10. Ensuring that when referrals are made for patients to see other medical service providers, adequate information is given to the personnel to whom the patient has been referred for proper assessment to be made 11. Be supportive of any incident and complaints policies and procedures to ensure proper investigation and appropriate follow up action 12. Maintaining patient confidentiality in line with professional standards 13. Work supportively alongside clinical and administrative colleagues in ensuring the highest standard of care for all patients 14. Engage with individuals during routine interactions to promote healthier lifestyle choices, in line with the Making Every Contact Count (MECC) approach
