The role
Are you passionate about protecting people, property, and the environment? Join us as a Warning & Informing Advisor and play a key part in how Wales prepares for and responds to flooding.
Based in South Wales you'll help deliver and enhance our flood warning services-ensuring communities receive timely, accurate information when it matters most. You'll work with internal teams and external partners to develop procedures, support emergency planning, and train staff to respond effectively to flood incidents.

Applications to this role will be assessed based on the following criteria both at shortlisting and interview. In your job application please demonstrate, using the STAR method, how you meet the requirements outlined below.
Degree in relevant scientific subject (e.g. physical geography, environment science or civil engineering) or equivalent experience. Graduate member of appropriate professional body (e.g. CIWEM, ICE or IRM) and working towards becoming chartered in the near future. Operational Flood Incident Management experience gained over a number of years. Demonstrable experience in technical report writing. Computer literate. Experience of coaching/mentoring people and the development of "junior" members of staff. Must have a full UK driving licence.
Welsh Language Level requirements:

- Helping communities understand their flood risk and encouraging them to develop flood plans
- Developing and improving our flood warning systems and guidance
- Supporting high-priority areas and helping shape our emergency response procedures
- Taking part in our 24/7 Flood Warning Duty Officer rota, playing a critical role during live incidents
- Building strong relationships with local authorities, emergency responders, and Local Resilience Forums

What you will do
- Contribute to the Flood Event Management Team by participating in the identification and development of business/work plans in order to reduce and manage flood risk.
- Support Health & Safety best practice by actively promoting awareness and ensuring the provision of safe working practices to comply with NRW's policy and standards.
- Promote the efficient and effective use of resources in order to ensure activities are completed to time and the cost and quality targets.
- Participate in cross team working and seek to influence customers and establish local partnerships to deliver common NRW's objective.
- Contribute to the development and delivery of the flood warning service so that the directorate, it's partners and the public are prepared to respond to flood events.
- Provide input to incident plans and procedures with external partners and test through exercise in order to ensure the directorate is prepared for flood events.
- Co-ordinate and administer internal procedures to ensure that the directorate is capable of responding effectively during a flood event.
- Support delivery of responsibilities under the Civil Contingencies Act working with partners as part of the Local Resilience Forum.
- Undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post
- Be committed to Natural Resources Wales Equal Opportunities and Diversity Policy , together with an understanding of how it operates within the responsibilities of the post
- Be committed to your own development through the effective use of your personal development plan (known as Sgwrs).
- Any other reasonable duties requested commensurate with the grade of this role.
