Renfrewshire Council is committed to providing the highest quality Children's Services.

An exciting new opportunity has arisen in the Adoption team within the Fostering and Adoption Service for a Social Worker.

We are a forward thinking, innovative service dedicated to ensuring the needs of children are at the centre of all we do. We aim to provide high quality Adoption assessments, well planned children’s transitions to prospective adopters, and responsive post adoption support, to ensure positive outcomes for Renfrewshire’s children.

The post will be predominately adoption focused, however will also include some fostering responsibility. You will join our established adoption team and be responsible for PAR-S assessments, adoption enquiries and preparation groups, and providing post adoption support in both group and individual family settings. In addition, you will support other social workers in the wider service to secure children’s adoption plans.

You will be part of driving forward innovative ideas in developing post adoption support services, and delivering these to ensure that adoptive parents are supported, and can assist their children to meet their full potential. As part of our ongoing service development, you will also have a role in supporting birth family members affected by adoption.

It is essential you have a BA (Hons) in Social Work or equivalent; relevant experience working with children and families preferably within the statutory sector; experience of individual and family casework and Child Protection work. Knowledge of child development and issues affecting looked after children, and an understanding of child protection is essential. Experience of delivering group work would also be beneficial.

You must also be registered with the SSSC, have effective communication skills, both verbal and written, and effective time management skills. You should also possess effective IT skills and have a responsible approach to sensitive information. You should have the ability to prioritise your own workload, maintain accurate case records, work in partnership with other agencies and demonstrate delivery of services through case work and crisis intervention.

Ability to work evenings and some weekends is required.

Post qualifying certificate in Child Care and Protection or Securing Children’s Futures is desirable.

A full current driving licence is also desirable.

If successful, you will be required to undertake a Disclosure Scotland check, the level of check will be determined by the duties of the post. If you would like further information in relation to the Disclosure Scotland checks, please visit www.disclosurescotland.co.uk
