Do you hold an ONC in electrical engineering or City & Guilds Electrician?

Are you someone who is looking for a role that is just that bit different from the normal day to day duties?

We are looking for someone with an electrical background to join our Highways Service.

The Team:

The Electrical Engineering Group sits within the Highway Operations section of the Highways and Transportation Service. The core focus is to manage Client activities relating to over 63,000 street lighting columns and 8000 illuminated traffic signs together with on-going delivery of the Council’s energy reduction programme.

We are extremely proud of what we have delivered, having won the National Green Apple Award, Bronze Green Apple Award, NHT Improving Public Satisfaction, Excellent Service Award – LED replacement programme and had an honourable mention in the Council’s efficiencies awards.

The Role:

This fantastic opportunity will allow you to work as an electrician inspector whilst supporting Highways Electrical Engineering team in managing all our electrical assets, thus offering you the ability to learn how to organise and manage traffic management projects on all types of Highways as well as broadening your knowledge base in highway engineering and in emerging technologies such as EV Charging.

We are interested in candidates from Scarborough, Whitby and Filey, Richmond, Harrogate, Selby and/or Skipton, however, we would welcome all applicants.

What you will bring…

This role plays a vital part in the frontline delivery of the Highway Electrical service and, for many local residents, represents the most visible and impactful member of the team. As such, exceptional communication and customer care skills are essential.

To be successful you will have:

• Knowledge and appreciation of electrical hazards.

• Understanding of the current IEE Wiring Regulations

• Knowledge of cable testing.

• Knowledge of Electricity at Work Regulations.

• Knowledge of Health and Safety.

As we have a team of electricians you can be based anywhere in the county and allocated your area accordingly.
