Fixed Term role for the period of the Apprenticeship.

Salary
- £19,500.00 per annum plus Serco benefits.
Main Purpose:
The apprentice will work as a member of Serco’s site-based Estate Maintenance Service Team at the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital, and through relevant training and support will contribute to the delivery of a high-quality estates maintenance service across a broad range of areas, including plant, equipment, engineering infrastructure services and systems within an NHS Hospital environment.
The broad purpose of the role is to contribute to the delivery of a safe and secure environment for patients, staff, and visitors. This must be achieved through compliance with health and safety, environmental, sustainability standards and electrical engineering regulations, standards and industry best practice, including requirements specific to healthcare. Additionally, work must be completed safely in line with company procedures and priorities, within agreed timescales, and with minimal disruption to critical health services.
A professional image must be presented at all times on behalf of the individual as well as the company; the role includes daily interaction with estates staff, patients, healthcare staff, customers and members of the public.
We are looking for a pro-active individual with a strong work ethic and willingness to learn. The apprenticeship will offer the opportunity to undertake a fully structured apprenticeship programme, combining the mix of formal core foundation off-site training and practical work experience within the Hospital as part of the maintenance service delivery team, providing the successful candidate a strong platform to build a future career.
Main Accountabilities:
During the apprenticeship, the Apprentice will be trained to Craftsperson level and will obtain maintenance knowledge and experience in the following systems and equipment – this is not exhaustive:
· Purpose and operation of estates maintenance.
· Electrical Installations (Power and Lighting) – Low Voltage.
· Interconnection of systems, plant and equipment impact on service continuity.
· Ventilation Systems and Air Handling Plant – including critical Theatre Plant.
· Life-critical medical electrical distribution for healthcare estates.
· Pumps and Motors
· Air conditioning and refrigeration.
· Back-up electrical generators.
· Isolated Power Supply (IPS).
· Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS).
· Medical Gas Systems to include Oxygen, Medical Air and Vacuum.
· Critical resilience back-up systems.
· Medical Sterilisation, including steriliser and washer disinfectors.
· Steam Systems (clean steam, sterilisation).
· Hot, cold and specialist Water Systems.
· Lifts and Lifting Equipment.
· Nurse Call Systems.
· Emergency Lighting Systems.
· Fire Alarm and Safety Systems
· Lighting and Power Systems including boilers.
· Energy Management.
· Building Management Systems (BMS) including plant operating strategy and controls.
· Catering equipment.
· Security equipment maintenance to include CCTV, Access Control, Car Park Equipment and Intercoms.
· Health and Safety.

What you will need for the role:
· Typically, GCSE grade or above in Maths, plus four other GCSE subjects at grade C/4 or above, one being a science-based subject
· Good communication skills to ensure effective interactions with colleagues, supervision, patients, visitors and Trust Staff.
· Able to balance conflicting priorities to ensure effective service delivery.
· Able to work within a hospital environment, understanding that there will be occasions of distress, deterioration, and bereavement.
· Able to satisfactorily undertake and complete all mandatory and statutory training as well as any other personal development identified to import knowledge, skills and behaviours as outlined within the National Apprenticeship Standard.
· Attention to detail.
