Crynodeb

An exciting opportunity has arisen to be part of our Woodbank Female Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Stepping Hill Hospital. This is the first female PICU within Pennine Care, a 6-bedded unit designed to deliver outstanding, compassionate, and trauma-informed care.

Are you passionate about Trauma Informed Care?
We are looking for dedicated, motivated, and compassionate individuals to join our team.

As a member of our team, you will:
• Act as a positive role model, reflecting the values of both the Trust and the unit.
• Contribute to providing high-quality, safe, secure, and therapeutic care.
• Help shape the future of this pioneering service, with a strong focus on staff wellbeing as well as patient care.
• As part of our Woodbank team, you will play a key role in supporting service user recovery through a trauma-informed approach, underpinned by the RAID model (Reinforce Appropriate, Implode Disruptive strategies).

At Woodbank PICU, we are proud to deliver care through our3Ps model–Positive, Proactive & Person-Centred. This multidisciplinary, biopsychosocial approach ensures the very best outcomes for our female service users.

Your main responsibilities will include:
• Acting as named nurse/key worker for an identified group of service users, ensuring assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.
• Co-producing collaborative, person-centred care plans and facilitating therapeutic activities to support recovery.
• Working closely with the multidisciplinary team to deliver coordinated and high-quality care.
• Engaging in de-escalation and conflict management, applying PMVA (Prevention Management of Violence and Aggression) techniques.
• Undertaking gatekeeping assessments for admission to PICU in the absence of the Clinical Pathway Team.
• Supporting the safe management of the ward by conducting safety checks, risk assessments, and clinical observations, in line with Trust policy.
• Administering medication safely, including controlled drugs, in accordance with Medicines Management Policy and NMC guidance.
• Taking on the role of Shift Leader when required, ensuring effective handovers, smooth ward operations, and clear communication.
• Promoting a safe, therapeutic environment, ensuring incidents are reported and managed appropriately.
• Ensuring clinical practice is always in line with least restrictive principles and trauma-informed values.

We will provide you with both mandatory and bespoke training, equipping you with the specialist skills needed to thrive in a PICU environment.

Why choose Pennine Care?
• Top mental health trust to work for in the North of England – NHS Staff Survey 2024
• A culture that supports professional autonomy and values nursing leadership
• A clear commitment to safe staffing levels and quality patient care
• A forward-thinking Trust focused on creating the conditions for great nursing care to thrive
• A genuinely supportive environment where your skills and compassion are recognised
