Care Assistant required to support a teenage boy aged 14 years who lives in Coundon, Bishop Auckland.

He has a diagnosis of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and is a full-time wheelchair user. He is a bright boy who needs support to engage in activities without parents to build his confidence and increase opportunities for socialisation. He enjoys arts/crafts, Lego, gaming and movies. Outside of the home, he enjoys going out and enjoys places where he can see nature. He would like to be able to share these activities with someone with genuine interest.


Hours /Wage

4 hours per week £13 per hour

The hours are 4 per week, times/days are flexible – can be set each week or vary depending on planned activity/availability. The hours can be weekday evenings, weekends and in school holidays can be during the weekdays.


Duties

Predominantly, the role is around supporting this boy to engage in activities both inside and outside the home. The specific activities may vary depending on weather etc. However, he requires support in toileting, and this will be a requirement as and when needed – PPE will be provided. Depending on availability for days/times etc. we would consider looking for a regular club/activity for him to engage in on a regular basis if something suitable can be identified.


Additional Requirements/Information

This boy is hoist transferred, and training can be provided on this. Someone with experience in a similar caring role is preferred, however not essential. He has a wheelchair accessible vehicle, so the PA must have a full driving licence and be willing to drive a van. Training will be provided to support him to access the vehicle and secure his wheelchair.

Enhanced DBS will be required, employer will cover the cost
