Would you like to join our friendly Estates team who will support you with on the job training? In our mission to be more sustainable and decarbonise our sites, we are looking for an Estates Maintenance & Security Officer Apprentice (Electrical) to join our team here at Portland College. This role will be based at our Main Campus in Mansfield with some travel required to our multiple sites across Nottingham.
This role will involve working closely with the Estates team to complete tasks such as installation of fittings; wiring distribution boards and new circuits; fault finding; equipment defect identification and repair; writing new builds on larger projects; EICR remedials; solar panel and inverter maintenance; PAT testing; testing fire and emergency light systems; and identifying and troubleshooting various electrical issues.
The successful candidate will also support in planned and reactive general maintenance across the campus; security duties such as securing buildings at the end of the day; and general grounds maintenance such as the tidying of green areas around the campus.
This is an exciting and varied role in a vibrant college where no two days are the same. Working around the campus, you will come into contact with staff, learners, citizens, and visitors during the day, therefore, we are looking for someone with a friendly and professional attitude. We are also looking for someone who can problem solve, has good time management and IT skills, and is able to work effectively on their own initiative and as part of a team. We require the successful candidate to hold a full and valid UK driving licence as this role requires travel across our multiple sites and the use of our on-campus fleet vehicles.
As an apprentice, you will take one day during the week (during term time) to study offsite at a local NVQ provider for 3 years. This role is on a fixed term contract for 3 years with the possibility of joining our team on a permanent basis following successful completion of the Level 3 Electrical qualification with an expected salary of between £35k and £39k. After 3 months in role, the advertised salary will include an on-call payment of £1700 per annum.

Qualifications needed
Essential
• Valid UK driving licence
• 4/5 GCSEs at grade C/4 and above including English and Maths and Science or a Technology subject
• Willing to work towards Level 3 electrical qualification
Desirable
• CSCS Card
Working Hours
37.5 hours – Monday through Friday on a rota shift pattern between the hours of 6:00am – 7:00pm, with an on-call rota for weekends (on a rotation basis).
*The successful candidate will not be required to be on call until they have worked at the college for 3 months.
