Clinical To provide OT assessment, treatment and advice to clients on caseload, establish appropriate treatment programmes and discharge criteria. To plan and implement client centred individual and/or group interventions in collaboration with the client, using graded activity to achieve therapeutic goals. To monitor, evaluate and modify treatment for clients in order to measure progress and ensure effectiveness of the intervention. To demonstrate and apply a broad level of understanding of the effect of disability and provide training and advice on lifestyle changes and adaptations to the clients physical and social environment. To work with children 0-18 years, in a variety of locations including home, school, nursery, clinics. To take responsibility for specific groups and clinics, e.g. football group, bike riding group, childrens autism assessment service, developmental coordination clinic, baby group. To have knowledge of and apply a range of paediatric treatment approaches under supervision, e.g. Sensory Integration, Bobath, perceptual/motor, cognitive approaches. To possess comprehensive risk assessment skills, demonstrating the ability to act appropriately to ensure safety of others and self when working as a lone practitioner. Communication and Documentation To establish effective and robust communication networks with clients, carers, and other health services, local authority and voluntary sector. To participate or work as a member of the multidisciplinary team, contributing to decisions with regard to client care programmes. To promote awareness of the role of OT within the team, and to external organisations and agencies, negotiating priorities where appropriate. To ensure that up to date written and electronic records and activity data are maintained in accordance with Professional and Trust standards and provide specialist OT reports relevant to clinical practice. Education and Training To undertake the supervision and appraisal of junior staff and students. To prepare and present tutorials for students and other staff. To review and reflect on your own practice and performance through effective use of clinical supervision. To apply increasingly complex skills and knowledge in order to establish professional competence and fitness to practice as a senior OT. To maintain a professional portfolio for CPD, recording learning outcomes through participation in internal and external development opportunities. Research and service development To demonstrate the ability to critically evaluate current research, apply them to practice and disseminate findings at a local level. To broaden research and development skills through participation in local audit and research projects. General To adhere to the RCOT Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct, HCPC standards and all relevant policies and procedures. To demonstrate understanding of national guidelines and legislation relating to health and social care and their impact on service provision To respect the individuality, values, cultural and religious diversity of clients and contribute to the provision of a service sensitive to these needs. To demonstrate the ability to reflect on ethical issues and to provide guidance to junior staff as necessary. To be responsible for maintaining stock, advising on resources to carry out the job To exercise good personal time management, punctuality and consistent reliable attendance. To undertake any other duties of a similar nature consistent with the responsibilities of this post in order to provide a quality occupational therapy service.
