We are a small Community preschool that has been running for 59 years, we are based in the St David's area of the City which is a short walk from St David's Station and a short walk from the town. We have children from the ages of 2 years to school entry. We offer good quality preschool provision for children in our area and the Children work to the EYFS Curriculum


Job description
A fantastic opportunity has become available at St David's Hill Playgroup. They are looking for an Apprentice Nursery Practitioner to join their setting, to fit well within their friendly team and learn skills on the job whilst supporting children’s play, learning & development.

We are looking for a candidate to join our small group and to work alongside experienced members of our staff. The applicant must be highly trustworthy and attentive to the needs of the children. You will be involved in supervising children during their play and actively encouraging children to learn through their play. This will be done under the supervision of the staff. This will be an important part of your role and you will learn how how to interact with young children throughout all activities that you take part in, which will help you progress through your apprenticeship

Duties Will include

• Caring for children

• Preparing and maintaining environments to meet children's needs

• Supporting children's play and learning

• Supporting children's development

• Adhere to all safeguarding practices

• Preparing snacks and help with their feeding and cleaning


To become an apprentice, you must:

be 16 or over
not already be in full-time education
As an apprentice you’ll:

complete a L2 or L3 Early Years apprenticeship standard
have regular one to one sessions with a dedicated trainer either remotely or through visits to your workplace
learn and train for a specific job
get paid and receive holiday leave
get hands-on experience in a real job
study for at least 20% of your working hours
complete assessments during and at the end of your apprenticeship
be on a career path with lots of future potential

What is an apprenticeship?

An apprenticeship is a real job where you learn, gain experience and get paid. You’re an employee with a contract of employment and holiday leave. By the end of an apprenticeship, you'll have the right skills and knowledge needed for your chosen career.

Levels of an apprenticeship

Each apprenticeship has a level and an equivalent education level. You can start an apprenticeship at any level.

At the end of your apprenticeship, you’ll achieve the equivalent education level. For example, if you complete a level 3 apprenticeship, you’ll achieve the equivalent of an A level.

Future Prospects
This vacancy is temporary ( for at least the duration of the apprenticeship) with a possibility of permanent employment if a vacancy is available upon completion of the apprenticeship.

Qualifications required
No previous qualifications required for L2 however experience in caring for children would be preferred.

Things to consider
Please note this playgroup is only open school term dates so holidays will be taken by the apprentice when the playgroup is closed for holidays and not in term time.
Wages are worked out over the year and paid over 12 months so each month the apprentice will receive the same amount.

Apprenticeship standard Level 2 Early Years Practitioner/ L3 Early Years Educator
Apprenticeship standards are aimed at developing skills within the Apprentices chosen career route, each standard has set knowledge, skills and behaviours required to be successful within the job role. This will include the completion of functional skills in Maths and English.
