This could be the role that you have been looking for, to develop your current skills and learn new ones. Supporting a dedicated team of Trading Standards Officers to carry out their enforcement work as part of their statutory functions on behalf of the Council.
About the Role
You will support our small team that checks imported goods for product safety requirements, and also support other officers for a wide and diverse range of duties such as responding to complaints, and enquires concerning businesses, products, and services. Undertaking administrative work as well as practical tasks such as ensuring specialist equipment is maintained and available for officers to carry out their work.
You will be required to make detailed and accurate notes and records at all times relating to the work you undertake. You will assist with logging of information in accordance with the legislative framework surrounding the legal process.
You will be communicating with businesses, other agencies and consumers, and providing compliance advice to businesses. Training will be provided.
About You
To apply for this post, you must have:
- Experience of managing your own workload and ability to prioritise work to meet deadlines and the needs of a demanding and rapidly changing work environment.
- A proactive approach with flexibility to meet service needs, this may include working outside of normal office hours.
- Experience of communicating via telephone, letter, email and face to face with businesses, other agencies, or departments in a professional manner.
- A broad spectrum of skills and ability to use your own initiative as well as following management instructions to enable you to efficiently carry out a wide range of tasks; experience of providing advice in an enforcement role would be an advantage.
- Enthusiastic to work in Trading Standards with an enquiring mind and an understanding of the work undertaken by Trading Standards.
- Excellent computer skills to enable fast and efficient data input and accurate and detailed recording of information, as well as understanding social media and the ability to carry out open-source research via the internet.
- Experience of working to set standards, protocols and procedures ensuring consistency and accuracy, and understanding the confidential nature of the work and adhering to GDPR.
