Job objectives and responsibilities
· To perform the duties of a Detainee Custody Manager in line with contractual requirements, legislation and company standards.
· To maintain high standards of security and safety whilst ensuring the welfare and decency of residents .
· To promote and deliver meaningful gym activities within the sportshalls, gym areas and courtyards ensuring contractual compliance and a safe and seucre environment is manintained.
· Create monthly timetables and reports that reflect needs of current population ensuring any trends are highlighted in line with Mitie policeis and procedures.
You will be a badged Detention Custody Officer, responsible for daily interactions with immigration residents. You will be required to attend a training course, which includes Health and Safety as well as Control and Restraint training.
You must be eligible for CTC clearance.You must hold a valid British passport or an EU passport with a share code. Additionally, you must have lived and worked in the UK for at least 3 years, without any extended trips overseas. Applicants must have no criminal convictions and must not be subject to any ongoing police investigations.
Main duties and accountabilities
· Manage a full activities timetable within the sporthalls, gyms and courtyards ensuring a safe and secure environment is maintained which detainees can access purposeful activities throughout their stay.
· Oversee and organise in the development and delivery of a wide range of activities, events, competitions and educational opportunities for detainees to enable them to meaningfully occupy their time and meet contractual and company requirements.
· Maintain equipment and stock levels working with outside agencies to ensure best practices are followed at all times.
· Engage with and manage residents in activities and meetings to ensure all needs are met and uptake is of a good level covering the 9 protectetd characteristics under Equality Law 2010.
· Maintain high standards of security and safety at all times, promoting an environment of positive behaviour that supports the welfare of residents and staff.
· Deal with inappropriate behaviour to ensure a safe and secure environment.
· Participate in the control of incidents and emergencies to ensure their swift resolution.
· Complete all documentation and administration in line with company policies so that accurate contractually compliant data is maintained.
· Promote the regimes activities, liaising with other departments, to ensure relevant activities are offered and uptake is optimised.
· Develop links with appropriate external stakeholders to support detainee engagement and activities within the Centre.
· Deploy staff effectively and appropriately to ensure the smooth running of services.
· Coach and support staff development to maximise staff performance, motivation and contribution.
· Manage and monitor staff on a day to day basis to ensure an effective sports programme is delivered in line with contractual obligations, legislation and company standards.
· Organise and manage the provision of timely accurate data to meet all relevant standards.
· Deal with queries and issues ensuring resolution or prompt escalation to ensure the safety, security and welfare of staff and detainees.
· Prepare for both scheduled and/or unannounced inspections and ensure that the provision is being managed and developed in line with the recommendations made by the client and HMCIP.
· Undertake other managerial duties as required to ensure the smooth and effective running of the Centre.
Person Specification
· A minimum of an NVQ Level 2 Fitness Instructor qualification is required.
· Previous experience or qualifications in sports or activity-based areas is an advantage.
· Good organisiation and IT skills is required.
· A willingness to undertake all mandatory tasks as required is vital.
· Previous experience in promoting, organising and delivering events or activities is required.
· Previous experience in managing a team would be an advantage.
· Experience within the custodial setting would be an advantage.
