SEN Teaching Assistant - Primary SEN Unit

Location: Tameside
Contract Type: Temporary (ASAP start) - Potential for Permanent Placement
Working Pattern: Full-time
Positions Available: 2

Your New Job

We are currently recruiting for two SEN Teaching Assistants to join a dedicated SEN unit within a mainstream primary school in the Tameside area. These roles are to start ASAP in September on a temporary basis, with the school actively seeking permanent placements for the right candidates. You will primarily support pupils in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) with complex special educational needs, including autism, communication difficulties, and sensory processing needs. Working closely with the class teacher and SENCO, you'll help deliver tailored interventions, support emotional regulation, and create a safe, engaging learning environment. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a nurturing and inclusive team, where your contribution will have a direct impact on the development and wellbeing of young learners.

Your New Company

Hays Education is a trusted recruitment partner for schools across Greater Manchester. We specialise in placing high-quality staff in mainstream and specialist settings, including SEN units, PRUs, and SEMH provisions. This particular school is a well-regarded primary setting in Tameside with a dedicated SEN unit that supports pupils with a wide range of additional needs. The unit is known for its strong pastoral care, structured routines, and therapeutic approach to learning. Staff work collaboratively to ensure every child receives the support they need to thrive both academically and emotionally.

What You'll Need to Succeed

  • Experience working with children with SEN, particularly in Early Years or primary settings.
  • A calm, patient, and nurturing approach.
  • Confidence in supporting pupils with autism, sensory needs, and communication difficulties.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • A DBS on the update service or willingness to apply for one.

What You'll Get in Return

  • Competitive daily rate.
  • Opportunity to secure a permanent role.
  • Ongoing support from your dedicated Hays consultant.
  • Access to free CPD and safeguarding training.
  • A chance to make a real impact in a specialist provision.
  • £250 in high street shopping vouchers per successful referral
