ABOUT THE POST

The School of Computing and Digital Media at London Metropolitan is recruiting to the post of Lecturer In Games and Animation.

The successful candidate for the post will:

Undertake a full range of academic duties including teaching, scholarly activity and research
Contribute to, deliver and promote high-quality research-led teaching
Support the School to deliver fair outcomes for students through enhancing inclusive academic practice

The postholder will:

Teach as a member of a teaching team in a developing capacity within an established programme of study, with the assistance of a mentor if required
Teach in a developing capacity in a variety of settings from small group tutorials to large lectures
Transfer knowledge in the form of practical skills, methods and techniques
Be a student-focused individual, passionate about education and student academic progress in the areas of Games and Animation
Be an expert in Creative Technologies and Games practice, with in-depth knowledge of programmes that facilitate one or more of the following types of creative design: 3D modelling and animation, game design and development, design in virtual or enhanced reality, CGI and VFX
Be an expert in the following particular skills: lighting, presentation of work in Marmoset Toolbag, 3D animation for games (Maya and Unreal); expertise in Maya, appropriate software plugins; have working knowledge of 3D modelling (Maya), 3D sculpting (ZBrush), UV mapping (Maya), texturing (Substance 3D Painter), rigging models (Maya), knowledge of games engines, particularly Unreal Engine, understanding of games, animation and VFX industries
Teach on the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Games Modeling Animation and Effects and other courses, for example Digital Media, when appropriate
Eventually be able to assume the role of course leader on a Games, Animation, Modelling and Effects award or a cognate award at UG or PG level
Have a good working knowledge of digital media practice, with adequate knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud software and other digital media production packages. Have or be able to develop some expertise in the following: Premiere Pro, pre-production for games and animation in Photoshop and Illustrator (concept art, storyboarding, animatics, colour theory, principles of animation etc.) and After Effects for game applications and compositing 3D elements into footage
Have strong and proven teaching experience at HE level
Be fully committed to enhancing student satisfaction and the student experience
Be a person who has strong industry experience and link in the digital sector and/or creative industries sector
Be research active, with the capability and potential to submit to the REF and to generate research income
Be a person who can play an active part in developing capacity and capability for external income generation and partnerships
Identify learning needs of students and define appropriate learning objectives
Deal with routine communication using a range of media
Communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically
Liaise with colleagues and students
Build internal contacts and participate in internal networks for the exchange of information and to form relationships for future collaboration
Join external networks to share information and ideas
Collaborate with academic colleagues on course development and curriculum changes
Attend and contribute to subject group meetings
Collaborate with colleagues to identify and respond to students' needs
