An opportunity has arisen for a trauma nurse coordinator to join the orthopaedic trauma team at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital.
We are looking for an individual with exceptional communication skills and proven experience of working in a fast-paced environment and able to prioritise an ever-changing workload. You will hold the bed capacity bleep for trauma orthopaedics and be expected to co-ordinate the seamless flow of trauma patients through the service, supporting and improving the scheduling of surgery for trauma patients. You will be required to maintain close working relationships with the multidisciplinary team, providing strong visible clinical leadership along the pathway for trauma patients.
Ensure appropriateprioritisationofthetraumapatients waiting surgery, both inpatient and outpatient,considering the clinical needs of thepatients and surgeons available. Work closely with theatres in the provision of accurate and contemporaneous information of trauma patients and their surgical management to facilitate the smooth running of the list. To discuss individual patients with CoW /on call consultant to ensure thattheatrelistsreflectpatients’priorities,matchingcomplexityofthepatient’ssurgeryagainstthe availability of surgeons andanaesthetists. To practice high standards of accurate verbal and written communication including that which is sensitive and/or complex to develop, promote and maintain effective working relationships across boundaries and the multi-professional team. To act as a role model to assist with the development of less experienced staff from all relevant disciplines. To maintain development of personal knowledge, clinical skill and experience. Recognise limits to personal confidence and competence acting to address these in accordance with NMC Code/standards and Trust policy. Engage with patients and their families/carers ensuring that they are fully involved in the management of their care (assessment, planning, initiation, evaluation) where appropriate. Work with the surgical bed manager and site team to support the transfer of patients into trauma and orthopaedic beds when required, to support Trust pressures.
