An opportunity has arisen for a Medical Secretary to join the Specialist Network within the Perinatal CMHT Department. Our Medical Secretaries provide a highly valued service to the clinical team.

We are looking for someone with proven secretarial skills to undertake the delivery of a comprehensive, high quality medical secretarial service to the consultants and medical staff within the team. As a service it is vitally important in that we provide a high quality service to patients, therefore if you are interested in joining a highly motivated team it would be great to hear from you.

The medical secretary is a key member of the Mental Health Network, Specialist Service. He/she will assist in the provision of effective and efficient services by providing a comprehensive professional secretarial and administrative service to a team of consultants and junior doctors, liaising effectively wherever necessary with other team members and external agencies. The medical secretary will also be expected to provide support to the MDT’s which take place each week, and provide cover for annual leave and sickness for colleagues.

In order to carry out the duties to a professional standard, the medical secretary will be expected to utilise a range of technical skills which may include word processing, use of email and other IT skills, audio transcription, live typing and medical/pharmacological terminology. He/she will also be expected to employ highly effective interpersonal and communication skills and will be required to work frequently without direct supervision. The confidential nature of all work concerning patients must be understood and safeguarded and the particular sensitivities to mental health issues respected. The post holder will be required to cover for absent colleagues when and where necessary for short periods of time such as annual leave and short-term sickness.

Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust provides a range of services including secondary mental health care across this area. Specialist provision comprises inpatient child and adolescent mental health services, perinatal mental health and forensic services including low and medium secure care.

The Trust also provides a range of physical health and well-being services in the community alongside a range of partners in the Lancashire, Cumbria and Sefton area.
