We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Kennel Assistant to join our team and help provide top-quality care to the dogs in our facility. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in animal care, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to handle the daily operations of a busy kennel environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Dog Intake & Care:
Welcome and process new dog arrivals, ensuring accurate recordkeeping and clear communication with pet owners.
Conduct initial health and behavior assessments and update logs accordingly.
Provide daily exercise through individual or group dog walks, ensuring safety and proper leash handling at all times.
Kennel Maintenance:
Clean and sanitize kennels, feeding areas, and play yards to maintain a high standard of hygiene.
Monitor the condition of the facility and report any maintenance or safety concerns promptly.
Client Interaction & Booking Management:
Greet clients in person and over the phone, providing friendly and knowledgeable assistance.
Receive and manage new bookings, update records, and confirm schedules using our kennel management software.
Ensure all dogs are up-to-date on vaccinations and care requirements before admittance.
Animal Welfare:
Monitor the health and behavior of all dogs in your care, reporting concerns to the appropriate staff.
Feed dogs according to their dietary needs and maintain accurate feeding logs.
Administer basic medications as instructed.
Requirements:
Minimum 1–2 years of experience working in a kennel, animal shelter, veterinary clinic, or similar environment.
Strong knowledge of dog behavior, handling techniques, and basic health care.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Comfortable working with dogs of all breeds, sizes, and temperaments.
Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Physical stamina — must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and be on your feet for extended periods.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certification in pet first aid or animal care (a plus, but not required).
Experience with kennel management or booking software.
Work Schedule:
This role will include weekends, holidays, and early morning or evening shifts as part of a rotating schedule.
