Manpower Recruitment have partnered with an established School in Oxford City Centre and are looking for an experienced Maintenance Manager to help lead the team on site.


This is a full-time role, on a permanent basis and paying £42000pa.


The role requires flexibility with hours, including some evenings and weekends


The Maintenance Manager reports to the Operations Manager and is responsible for the management and running of all aspects of our buildings and facilities including service contracts, and the purchasing of certain categories of goods and services, effectively, on time and within budget. Direct reports are Maintenance Operatives and Caretakers.

Main Duties

  • Managing all aspects of the maintenance, upkeep, and development of the fabric of our buildings and grounds as well as the services and physical facilities in them.
  • Co-ordinating and managing Health and Safety issues related to buildings and services and ensuring all Health & Safety information and records and site files up to date
  • Managing the Maintenance and Caretaking team so that the set up for all events, whether during the day, in the evenings or at weekends is always carried out in an efficient and timely fashion, and that all maintenance requests are prioritised and addressed promptly.
  • Effective and efficient financial management of relevant budget including purchasing of relevant items and services.


Maintenance and buildings management

  • Taking responsibility for all issues to do with the fabric of the school buildings and with the facilities and services within them
  • Managing maintenance throughout the school. Drawing up and managing maintenance, gardening, and decorating schedules, and organising day-to-day maintenance, removals and emergency repairs utilising the skills of the in-house maintenance team supported by outside contractors.
  • Managing and overseeing the work of the school's maintenance staff
  • Day-to-day troubleshooting of maintenance issues
  • Working up specifications, obtaining quotations and negotiating with outside contractors for repairs and refurbishment of buildings in conjunction with the Operations Manager then co-ordinating and overseeing their works, whilst onsite.
  • Checking and authorising the payment of all invoices pursuant to the Maintenance department
  • Taking responsibility for all issues relating to the security of School premises (including fire and intruder alarm systems)
  • Ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation
  • Managing service contracts as directed by the Operations Manager throughout the school and working in conjunction with Facilities Team.
  • Researching, negotiating and in agreement with the Operations Manager putting in place new service contracts (where necessary within the fixed term nature of this contract)
  • You will be required to work "on call hours" if necessary


Health and Safety

  • Day-to-day supervision of health-and-safety matters relating to buildings and services
  • Organising installation and repair of items of health and safety equipment
  • Carrying out risk assessments and risk assessment reviews (training can be provided if required)
  • Co-ordinating the follow up and any subsequent investigation into incidents, accidents and near-misses
  • Periodic 'walk about' inspections of all sites

Events

  • Liaising with all relevant staff at all sites to ensure that any event that requires 'set-up' is known about well in advance
  • Instructing the Caretakers and Maintenance Operatives on requirements for any event
  • Ensuring that venues are unlocked and unalarmed/ locked and alarmed as required both for weekday evening and weekend events.
