The Planning, Training and Apprenticeship Support Officer works within the Office of the Traffic Commissioner (OTC).

This role sits within the OTC Planning, Training and Apprenticeship Support Team and will ensure that recruitment and selection activities attract and retain colleagues and develop existing staff. The post holder will work closely with DVSA Resourcing, Training and Apprenticeship Specialists in the People Directorate to ensure that OTC staff have a portfolio of development options and opportunities.

In this role you will be responsible for ensuring that new colleagues are brought into the OTC in a timely manner and are provided with a high-quality induction and training programme. The team will ensure all mandated training is completed and provide support to the apprenticeship scheme and across all colleagues as part of the ongoing development available to nurture talent within the OTC.

You will effectively support the provision of guidance, coaching and development to ensure team fully understands and works to achieve overall team objectives.

Your responsibilities will include, but aren’t limited to:

  • Embedding a culture of continuous professional development to ensure that colleagues have the right knowledge, skills, and behaviours to provide excellence in service.
  • Ensuring change is managed effectively, plans are communicated and updated on a regular basis and that impact analysis is completed for all activities and updated on a regular basis.
  • Working with managers and the People Directorate Recruitment Policy team to create a robust and future facing attraction strategy for employment across the OTC.
  • Ensuring recruitment activities adhere to the Civil Service principles of open & fair competition - including accurate result compilation and ordering of merit list.
  • Ensuring relevant Management Information is available to support evaluation / analysis of recruitment outcomes to help identify continuous improvement actions.
  • Working with Standards and Quality Team to ensure all colleagues have the right knowledge, skills, and behaviours to be able to provide excellent service delivery and make sure all mandated or bitesize training is completed and recorded.
  • Providing communication, guidance and supporting materials to promote apprenticeships within OTC and enable staff and managers to have the right information to support career and capability conversations.
  • Collaborating with TCs/TR to ensure the provision of high-quality OTC functions are maintained.
